anyway, I don't recommend anyone else use it just yet, it's pretty experimental still, and I can't even reply to anyone because I don't implement getRecord properly and apparently that's needed for replies

rsky uses Postgres instead of SQLite ‘to make the PDS easier to migrate between cloud hosting providers and more maintainable’.

Usually sqlite is ‘the easy option’, but I guess in this case the reference PDS is using it in a more complicated (distributed) way?

Anyway, it’s great to have millipds around since it seems to have similar ease-of-use goals in common with rsky, while exploring some new patterns that might lower the simplicity/maintainability bar even lower 💫

I did originally intend to mirror the reference impl's one-db-per-user thing, but since the PDS needs to sort events "globally" into the firehose event stream, I thought having a single big db would be simpler to implement (and maintain)

trying to maintain ACID between the "hub" db (containing the event stream) and the "spoke" dbs is possible but felt like a bit of a nightmare to manage, so I gave up.

I suspect postgres is a more scalable choice, but millipds isn't really intended to scale (I'm optimising for a "couple of users on a cheap VPS" sort of use case)
