Nice gesture, but I doubt the individual going through their trash would ever see this note displayed on the front door. It would more effective taped to the dumpster. Still ... a kind gesture.
Thanks for this....and Pam Bondi will soon find her own personal hell as she dances with Trump. Mark this post. Here's a piece from my appropriately named book, Natural Causes... Cheers... Collage on canvas (Quacker) from 2023.
I think I'd stick to the dumpster; peanut butter and jelly and water? oh yeah I want to be sitting at the counter in there eating a peanut butter and jelly and drinking some water.
A friend gives what they would want to eat. I doubt thatβs a PB&J and water. Itβs giving βyou should be grateful for whatever you get,β and somehow leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
"a cup of water" - perhaps "fill your water bottle & a cup with your meal" ? Or just leave that part out, it doesn't take away from a kind gesture, though.
Love the sentiment. Just wish the owner offered the warm meal and offered the PB&J as a take away meal. But that me being a picky brat. We will be helping each other a lot more.
Ya, I have money in my wallet, money in my bank account and a kitchen stocked fullβ¦and Iβm out there dumpster diving for food that has been contaminated with other garbage??? Get it together dude.
Desperation drives this.
Did I say YOU or I were doing it? I said people have other reasons other than being broke. There are whole industries based around reducing food waste. Grocery stores throw out barely blemished and imperfect produce regularly and bagel/donut/pizza shops throw out day old food that's perfectly fine.
I get that and we as a society should do something ab food waste. However, are YOU dumpster diving? No, bc desperation hasnβt set it. It is desperation that causes it.
I've known people... may not be many... but I know people that dumpster dive to reduce food waste and to just see what they can find. Not out of desperation. But I digress. And my punctuation sucks.
If they wanted the guy digging through their trash to get the message, they'd put the note on the trash. This is just for social media clout, and they probably took it down after taking the picture.
I was the Chef in a Panama City restaurant in the 90s...we'd offer homeless people a grouper sandwich, fries, cup of soup and coffee/tea/soda or water if they picked up the trash in our parking lot (normally, there was very little)...many seemed to want to earn their meal...happy t-day Scott
Gus from Stardew Valley vibes. Remember, anyone can do good in the world and we waste more than we eat anyway. Food is the gift of life across the world and it's cultures π½οΈππ«
Just think what we could achieve if we all just popped down to a food bank with all our supplies that we hoard for no reason. Donβt throw away a well cooked meal because it was too much. Take it to a street dweller and feed them. It will help them and make you feel good. Organise your street ππ»
Mine too, brought a tear to my eyes. There are still so many good people out there, it's very touching to see humanity at its best in small acts of kindness like this.
Wow, thanks a pant load for the cup of water and the gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I hope it didnβt put you out too muchβ¦ seriously mixed emotions about this post
I was feeling a bit the same. The note looks like itβs on the window. Why not the bin? The reference to being a human would cut very hard in this context - not help. Feels a bit PR-ish to me. The gesture was good - flawed execution. So many other more respectful options and ways of communicating π
People going through dumpsters for food don't need to be told that what they're doing is subhuman. Leave them alone or offer them food, don't preach. Hell, you could just leave the food next to the dumpster or something
Yeah, I probably said too much myself...as some guy I blocked pointed out, I'm not doing anything to help the homeless myself but at least I'm being self-righteous about it...lol
Minimum Guaranteed Income would sure go a long way to eliminating the need for this but we would rather see how much money a few dozen toddler-men can stack up instead.
We, meaning politicians and the myriads of defense industry lobbyists that donate to said politicians, have priorities. Feeding, housing and educating our population isn't as important as making sure we can kill whomever and wherever we feel the "need".
Ya, because the one who dies last with the most money wins. Unless they are freezing their brains, hoping to extend their brilliant penny pinching minds for future experimenting & disection by the next mind controlled sci-fi cultists.
How's that working out for those dead guys. Egyptians did the same, squandered, and buried their wealth around the leaders' bodies. Generations later, this wealth was pilfered by oligarchs from former oligarchs. They eat their own.
How we came to be at the mercy of pathetic, moronic, & toxic bullies just boggles the mind! All because the orange buffoon was rejected by both parents & adopted (as an adult!) by Ray Cohn. You can never underestimate the power of abusive parenting & mob influence to wreak havoc on a democracy.π
There are churches that do the work weβre called to do; that know our mission and operate as the hands and feet of Jesus. I know and abhor what some churches are. But I lift up the churches that extend the grace of Christ in tangible ways. Every single day.
Fun fact that's a false number. I've actually done the research on what taxing religious organizations would do and it would barely push the needle sadly.
Jesus said, "Pay your taxes." it's not about the amount. And I'm pretty sure 3% of $71 billion is still quite a bit of cash to help starving and disenfranchised people. It's about hypocrisy. Rules for thee not for me. Wolves in sheeps clothing.
I 100% agree it's the love of the power the medium gives you, not the medium itself. I did not mean to mislead because I do not like it when people say it's money that's the root of all evil and not that the love of money is the root of all evil. Please forgive me.
When my son and I were unhoused and trying to find food . If I came across this, I would had cried and been great full. We need more of this . Sometimes the small gestures mean the most .
While that time was tough , I pulled myself up . We are and have been housed for 4 years and counting now . I learned a lot being unhoused. Changed my whole perspective on life . β₯οΈ Iβm not sorry for the experience, Iβm great full.
No, we are in Chicago, but if you like, I can send you the full list that we use with the Amazon links, and you can send items as a gift to any of your local non-profit organizations that are actively supporting the homeless.
For the next 4 yrs, maybe only 4, time will tell, America will be a self-serving, power-hungry, greedy, inhumane nation. It will be good for us to see posts once in a while of the rose in the snow. The breath of compassion & humanity filtered through the disgusting vale & stench of Fascism n power.
Doesn't this make you question what kind of country we're running here? If we're to actually become a civilized society, we've got some serious work to do.
Hey Democrats what if you had a clean box next to the dumpster where you put the food at the end of the day? Then people wouldn't be going through the dumpster! Why don't you send that idea through a committee and wait 20 years for the results
I love this post. It made me cry π I want to thank all human beings who have empathy and compassion for the less fortunate. Sending you love π and many blessingsβ₯οΈποΈ

Sounds about right.
Well done.
That doesnβt mean anything for their politics, as half this comment section is suggesting. It just means they have a kind heart.
There is always one who judges others for doing good.
However, because my mind is terminally silly, Iβm imagining this note being intended for Zoidberg

Desperation drives this.
Thanks for sharing.
We have become afraid to address the bigger problems.
Thank you for the reminder and restoration of a little bit of the faith back to humanity.
Thank you!
"Money" is a medium of account that allows us to easily convert chickens into loaves of bread and then, to store that value for future use.
But the "love of money," which some might call "greed," is evil.
