if you now have 'salvage' title vehicles that are *barely* totaled due to parts costs mixed in with ones that legit have major issues— it is going to make the used car market even sketchier.
I'm sure the insurance companies will use that as the lie to raise your rates. Everybody is going to make a fast buck on this total annihilation of the US economy. Nobody should have voted for this fascist Trump. If you know somebody that did, they helped destroy this country. I voted to save it!
maybe we need to spend time trying to convert some of them. Wouldn't even mind having Krysten Sinema back!
Although, I'd bet Musk put her in the millionaires club.
Trump is kicking Americans in the teeth. He is always operating through threats against other countries which makes him the weakest leader of all, especially considering the suffering he is causing in his own country.
That was my first concern. Why would people think it would only affect new cars, when the cost of fixing existing ones will be higher? Your used car is now more expensive
I’ve been saying that for weeks. Not just new cars, or parts for routine maintenance, but God help you if you have an accident. That sheet metal, headlight or fastener isn’t manufactured in the US.
They can avoid those increases if the whole country slows down and stops having two accidents per person per year. Guess that won't happen so insurance companies will need to pay 25% more for replacement parts. Maybe if trump insists, the insurance companies will eat the tariffs.
All insurance premiums will go up. Not only will climate change get worse, inflation also causes increases in claim payouts. A nasty recession will also increase moral and morale risk.
I was hoping the markets would soon soften, but I know now they won't
I work for a public insurance company in Canada. Rate hikes are going to have a devastating effect on the working class population. The recession that will happen in the US will have a domino affect on us. Realistically feeling dread.
Well I'm no spring chicken either and just fought for my life w/ 2 4th stg cancers during covid. And I do not appreciate my govt trying to ruin what little time I may have left to enjoy my friends and family. So I'm not ready to quit fighting.
Congratulations and I honestly would do the same. My frustration is real. My fear is I won’t have access to the medical care to give me a true opportunity to fight.
I sincerely hope your medical fights are a thing of the past.
As well as farmers. Continue to work against their best interests over and over again. Just because the candidate on the ballot has a R in front of their name.
I really pity you. The good people suffering under the evil. Hold your head up and raise your voice. Just realise that a lot of people across the globe are with you.
Or that many parts of American vehicles are actually made in other parts of the world before being assembled in the US. They’ve just become considerably more expensive.
How far do you go back? This was a simple example starting with raw part. You have mining of bauxite processing into aluminum oxide. Further smelting snd electrolysis. Probably put into ingots then more refining to get the powdered aluminum. Never mind the vehicles and supplies used to transport.
I think we can all agree, that Trump is a con and liar. The food prices are outrageous. Now with all the Tariffs, expect to pay $5.00 for an avocado. 🥑
And if somebody blows their engine apart or something.... And they need parts because it's their only vehicle and they need it on the road as soon as possible... It's going to cost them three times as much
Oh, it will. Worse if you have an import. But even domestics have many of their parts and components made in Mexico and Canada. I used to haul the steel down to make them and the parts back up to the factories.
I don’t go anywhere, so o still have almost a tank of $2.99 gas from 2 weeks ago. I feel for long distance drivers going to work their 40. I remember when there was a gas war between stations trying to be the lowest $.99-$.75 gallon. Radio stations were giving away free gas to the 1st 100. Sigh
No, silly, it's going to make us all have money like we won't believe, we won't know how to spend it all! That's what he said, the guy who lies with every breath. I choose to believe this one, single utterance!
My car insurance on two cars is almost as much as a single car payment I have used it once in 40 years for small damage paid by the other persons company. Ugh.
Tariff on cars = cars cost more for everyone. People buy fewer cars.
Dealers need fewer cars. Fewer cars needed to force production cuts. Production cuts mean job cuts. Job cuts mean bills don't get paid.
By the way, car insurance costs go up with car increased prices. See how this snowballs?!
Luckily when we sell the used car bec we can’t afford to fix it, there will be a market for it because folks won’t be able to pay $20k more than usual for a new car. That’ll be helpful when we’re rising the bus for hours because the US doesn’t invest in mass transit like other developed countries.
Rising value of used cars also occurred during COVID, as 1st effect was new car dealers had a glut due to stay home orders (demand plummeted), but long-term effect was supply chain disruptions (due to Chinese-made chips) meant price of used cars spiked, at least until supply chains stabilized.
Heck they’re going up so fast now. I think they heard me sneeze. “Raise her rate” But this is true. How much will it cost if in an accident and they pay for parts. Bingo. Rates increase.
They made it law to carry insurance to prop up the insurance industry and have never set any limits on what they can charge and allowed them to cancel policies based on climate collapse data but deny climate collapse.
To say nothing of multiple types of "insurance" rackets that benefit no one but the company - dental "insurance", vision "insurance", funeral "insurance", etc.
Yes! I was hit in the Costco parking lot recently. I decided not to get it fixed (fairly minor damage, but would still cost $775 to fix) or make a claim because my premiums are already insane.
In MO we have many getting around those laws. If you cancel your insurance 5 minutes after receiving the paperwork to put in your glove box you will get a refund and the police won’t write you a ticket if involved in an accident. 😳 If hit you won’t know until you call their insurance for payment. 😩
Inflation just went from 2.2% to 34+%... Way to go MAGA voters! All those egg-price obsessed lunatics are going to see absolutely everything they buy skyrocket. FAFO.
Their margins aren't enough to absorb the hike. Only way is for China to devalue their currency by an offsetting amount. Thus strengthen the US dollar in relation, which makes manufacturing in the US less viable in the long term... opposite of the Trump administration's intention.
Probably not enough; until they see their next bill and wonder if their car insurance is now a luxury tax. Tariffs don’t just hit the dealerships; they sneak into repair shops, premiums, and wallets too.
That's the least of our problems. His idiotic tariffs are going to cause a recession, destroy the global economy, and put many people out of business. That will lead to massive unemployment.
As an observer from afar I am beginning to wonder if the American people realise anything. It all seems to be completely bonkers. I keep thinking I will wake up and it will have been a particularly bad dream.
Those of us not in the 77 million wonder this all day every day. We're petrified of what's to come next, what they're distracting us from. We can't grasp how they keep electing these cucks but then they'll cry about the consequences they voted for.
Oh some of us get it. More than it appears. Hopefully when Elon can’t buy or influence elections it will help. Only the damage may be irreversible for quite some time. Trust me it’s not all.
Let’s see how many protest on Saturday. It won’t change anything overnight but the message will be clear 🙏
There are more than half the people in this country who are being dragged down with this administration kicking and screaming. I have no idea what it will take for the other half to realize just how bad they’ve hurt the country they proclaim to love. No winners, unless you’re a billionaire.
Sure my home burned to the ground so after all was over my ins co dropped us. Now I have basement bargain ins for the highest premium. How dare I use my insurance 🤷♀️
You captured it perfectly. Me too. I didn’t even think of this. Car and house insurance has been the bane of my existence the last few years. Now this. I just can’t 😭😩
My household pays about 500 a Month for car insurance for a 2018 Prius with full coverage and an old car which only has liability. But I think I live in the worst state in the country for car insurance. Our home insurance is about 100 per month but we don’t live in an area at high risk for disasters.
But don’t forget we also pay for health insurance and that is super high unless your job pays for it. When I had breast cancer my insurance wouldn’t kick in until I reached $7,500 out of pocket costs. It’s shitty here. It’s such a shitty place to live that half the voters chose trump.
Oh I love to answer this question about car insurance. I have 3 sedans (young adult children) and 2 SUV’s. 2012-2020. 3 paid off. My six month premium is $7K with lots of discounts and no accidents. So about $2800/car/year.
This January our insurance company took hundreds extra out of our account. When we asked why they said because our 22 y/o son lives with us. He doesn’t drive. I asked them how do you know he still lives in our house but you don’t know that he doesn’t have a drivers license. Fuckers always cheating.
I wonder how many people realize Trump just took money out of their wallets and is going to giving it to the billionaires through tax breaks? 1 million seconds is 11 days, 1 billion seconds is 31 years! People can not understand the wealth or the severe addiction to wealth of billionaires!
He’ll give $Cents in tax cuts to the minions and $Dollars to the Oligarchs. Meanwhile these Tax-Tariffs will take $Dimes out of the minions’ pockets. The maga lemmings will thank the cockwomble and ask for more, please.
As a person that has to deal with insurance for 7 months while waiting for parts from Canada after the strike… it’s an awful and unglamorous experience. And we were down a car the whole time
Isn't the whole fandango based on the assumption/conman's logic that the majority of his support - the "mark" as it were - find the whole labyrinth of economics too complicated to understand?
Of course it will. Now consider home insurance as homes will be more expensive too. Then look at health insurance. If Medicaid is clobbered, health insurance companies will gouge prices.
I checked my Amazon save for later cart yesterday (I know, but sometimes I don’t have a choice and have to use it for work). EVERY item went up at least $2-3 in the last day. And these aren’t luxury items, some are staples. This is just the beginning.
I'm assuming you didn't vote for the emotionally retarded, pathologically lying adjudicated rapist and convicted felon so I'm willing to give you a pass on your Amazon cart.
This time.
That sounds like a threat but in reality: I got nothing.
i honestly didnt make this connection, holy shit thank you. this is probably why they're theatrically pursuing luigi's public execution; insurance companies are about to get a lot richer and they want to get ahead of potential copycats taking out more executives as the industry gets even more greedy
I did the moment they were being talked about. My first thought was "if the price of car manufacturing goes up, it's not just total assembly. Parts will increase in prices along with cars, which means my insurance is gonna explode. Goddamnit."
Oh Damn !!! You are absolutely right. Find a f&cking tRUMPer, and thank them… f&cktards 🤬. Ladies and Gentleman, I have a nomination for “ post of the night “ !! Bravo, I salute you sir 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾( Informative/ absolute TRUTH/ Trump 💩+ I’m serious… FIND A MAGgot and thank them, publicly !! categories)
And the tariff on lumber causes home insurance to go up.
And labor shortages have pushed up construction costs leaving one third of Americans homes already under insured while climate change means natural disasters are becoming more frequent.
It's almost like math doesn't care what you think.
That's the point though. This insurance companies are struggling financially (to pay hefty CEO salaries) and America wants to pay more for items that were 25 percent cheaper 3 minutes ago. They'd gladly pay twice that to own the libs.
A Trumper got so butt hurt and called everyone a libtard when he found out that the prices of auto parts went up directly because of the tariffs. These people are not well
My electric bills have surged. I asked my Trumper neighbor if he was seeing the same thing. He nicely agreed everything has gone up. His maga wife snideling said, "It's what you voted for". To be clear, I vote blue.
Housing too...he fucked everyone. Not surprised when the maga idiots trust a man with 6 bankruptcies (including a casino!) to be smart about economics.
Ron: to understand that those same people have to understand critical thinking and the impacts of second, third and beyond orders of effects. Thanks to the repubs, many people have no clue. That said, they are now about to find out and it’s gonna hurt.
What do you pay for car insurance in the US? In Germany, we pay 41 Euro per month since the last increase. (Average is between 30 and 60 Euro per month)
My husband and I do not like having a car payment. We both have perfect driving records. I have a 2009 Honda Accord and he has a 2015 Nissan Xterra. We currently pay $250 a month on car insurance. I cannot imagine the price of insurance on a new vehicle.
I knew we were being seriously overcharged but I had no idea how badly. Our homeowners insurance is almost $1,000 per month (Florida). US Health insurance and healthcare costs are also outrageous compared to western Europe and Canada.
Our homeowner insurance is 118 Euro per month😳
Healthcare insurance is within our salary but I have an additional private insurance of 40 Euro per month for the teeth.
I'm in the suburbs of Rochester NY. The one bus that goes by my neighborhood passes by at 6:30am and again at 6:30pm.
You either need to get up early and show up HOURS ahead of when you need to be somewhere, use Lyft/Uber ($$$$$$$$$$), or buy a car. We have no trains/subways up here.
Nobody remembers the blindsided 10 to 15% inflation&unemployment under Reagan. Of course everything will multiply prices. Car insurance needed to buy cars on credit. Monthly payments increase more w/interest rates. Housing and rents rise b/c mortgage payments rise. Wages keep up so higher prices.
Same. I’ve been having my guys go to jobs without me because I can’t function from lack of sleep. They’re young and great workers, I trust them, but my hourly rate is higher so I’m not making as much money. I don’t trust myself to drive or use power tools from lack of sleep
Yep. And just the cost of regular repairs. Needs to replace a hot water heater, AC coil, broken fence. All the materials will be more expensive. And companies having higher operating costs will raise prices even more.
It’s the opposite. Trump wants to bend the corporate world to his will and force them to kiss his ring. Then he will selectively peel back tariffs for the industries that bow to him. That’s the plan.
I wish they’d all just refuse to pay and sue on account of it’s clearly not authorized by Congress under the war-time rate setting powers. Also, there’s no war to activate it.
"The Coming Recession is Self-Inflicted. The looming economic contraction will be unique in post-war America in that it will be the first directly caused by White House policy." - Bloomberg
Yes, car parts are much HIGHER now, and all cars will be, within the week apparently, rising prices of UP to $12,000 per vehicle.
Insurance has to pay those higher costs, but also, in the case of Tesla, they've STOPPED covering them because they're GLUED together and a liability.
True that! When inflation ticked up 8%, the entire corporate world raised prices 30 - 50% to cash in. All to be blamed on President Biden so Trump could be reelected & corps could get continued economic benefits. It's long past time for https://USCitizensCongress.bsky.social!
ADDED BONUS: 60-70% of replacement parts...including oil and air filters are made in Mexico,so good job voting that fucking idiot into office again, MAGAts.
I went to buy new wiper blades this morning. Made by Trico, formerly in Buffalo New York now in Brownsville Texas but it proudly says on the side made in Mexico I was surprised
With these tariffs, the price of everything will go up. We happen to have the most ill informed president in our history in the Oval Office right now. He has said he actually believes that exporting countries pay the import tariffs. He is so unbelievably wrong, we pay for his ignorance.
He’s playing dumb. He admitted he knows it’s a tax on the people in that drivel he wrote about tariffing fentanyl. His supporters are unfortunately NOT just playing dumb.
Most of them got sucked into the “Trumplican Party”. They are not true Republicans any longer, they are the real RINO’s. I believe we have some true Republicans out there, but I also think they are more focused on keeping their job than doing their job.
They are afraid of losing or having Trump post bad stuff about them on his Lie Social app. They don't want his radical followers coming after them. They're afraid. And they helped create this.
But no, if it matters, it was Biden 😂😂. Oh no that's what I said Donald 2024 oops??? Come on you have chosen him and the prices are getting more expensive for you!

another related issue is that the bar for declaring a car totaled will go way down.
a lot of places you can't un-salvage title a totaled car. banks rarely finance salvage titles.
Although, I'd bet Musk put her in the millionaires club.
I was hoping the markets would soon soften, but I know now they won't
The multiplier effect will have huge
I sincerely hope your medical fights are a thing of the past.
Additional pain.
He actually won’t suffer a bit.
☹️
$3.579/gal isn’t horrible. I’m sure Cheeto felon will get gas prices far higher.
I just found 37 cents in my couch…
Little victories.
Dealers need fewer cars. Fewer cars needed to force production cuts. Production cuts mean job cuts. Job cuts mean bills don't get paid.

I will fight back!
Until you pointed it out .
Let’s see how many protest on Saturday. It won’t change anything overnight but the message will be clear 🙏
This time.
That sounds like a threat but in reality: I got nothing.
Never voted for the orange felonious one. I’m not stupid.
law of unintended consequences
all insurance for that matter
And the Orange Schmuck will point at the increasing auto premiums as proof of how “fantastic” and “successful” his “great” policies are.
Same guy who flew his businesses into the ground.
The regular people who get crushed? Who?
And labor shortages have pushed up construction costs leaving one third of Americans homes already under insured while climate change means natural disasters are becoming more frequent.
It's almost like math doesn't care what you think.
The USA is winning big time...
I couldn't imagine having to also pay health insurance and still risking bankruptcy in a health emergency.
Stay strong and vote better.
Healthcare insurance is within our salary but I have an additional private insurance of 40 Euro per month for the teeth.
You either need to get up early and show up HOURS ahead of when you need to be somewhere, use Lyft/Uber ($$$$$$$$$$), or buy a car. We have no trains/subways up here.
Tariffs are a tax on imports. If you think the companies will absorb them with an "oh well", you are delusional.
All costs go up, trade and exports fall, job loses, economy plummets.
Moron at work!
From Canada
This is just a endless layer cake of shit
Insurance has to pay those higher costs, but also, in the case of Tesla, they've STOPPED covering them because they're GLUED together and a liability.

And I didn't vote for him because I "just had a feeling."
It was more than that. A whole hell of a lot more.
