Cut your stick(s) of butter into a few pieces and place on a dish. Run hot water in a bowl for a few seconds. Dump it out. Cover the butter with the bowl. Wait maybe 5-10 minutes. You may have to repeat warming the bowl, etc. a couple times, but you'll your butter will soften fairly quickly.
Even worse is when they want dairy ingredients like milk to be “room-temperature.” Like how do you measure the perfect balance of warmer temp but just before bacteria can grow? I am not a food scientist!
Just put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Nope. A bit more. Maybe another 10 seconds. Ah crap. I hope half solid half boiled is equivalent to softened.
Fill a bowl with boiling water and let it sit for a few minutes. Dump out the water and cover the butter with the hot bowl. The butter will soften in about 10 minutes.❤️
My new microwave has butter and ice cream softening settings. The height of luxury especially since my house is too cold this time of year to soften butter on the counter 😂

Unless you set to power level 1 and watch it like a hawk.
I like sitting a LOT
It’ll soften up.

Step One: Here is something you needed to start doing 12 hours ago.
the act of cooking rice, cooling it, and cooking it again is like pulling teeth
I can’t get involved in any other dough related gasliteration.
Microwave ovens exist. That's all I'm saying
