@nicollewallace.bsky.social said today that democrats are the friend who you think you’ve finally convinced to leave the bad partner and then they are back crying on your couch a week later.
When I quit NYT a coworker called me to ask why, and when I said it was especially because of my desk head they were like you know desk head is just an abusive boyfriend.
Shout out to my high school for offering judo ONLY to girls, which let me thinking taking karate in college was fine, which lead me to taking jiu jitsu to meet boys (failed at the boys part) and get out rage at my job (was very good at that)
I took Judo and Ki Aikido my last semester in college, at the very least you definitely get acclimated to getting tossed around, as well as trying to avoid getting tossed around and whatnot, and I'd like to think that stays with you even long after you've taken class.
I think this is a particularly impactful aspect. Once people realize you're not afraid and are fully willing to remove threats physically, the value proposition changes and most scamper off. Never been one for runnin'; feel it's a great way to wind up not breathing, one way or the other.
(I have POTS, which means I have a limited window of intense physical exertion. Better for me to stand my ground and control how that gets spent, than to run and let someone else dictate it. Do worry that approach might eventually land me in hot water, but don't feel I have much of a choice.)
If you are afraid of a bully your solution is not to bend to them but to throw a hard punch first. The Dems keep backing down because they're a bunch of fucking cowards when they need to come out swinging.
I just had a flash of my dad telling me (@ 7? 8? years old) that if I ever got in a situation where I HAD to fight I should
- throw the first punch,
- hit the other person in the nose* as hard as I possibly could, and then
- run away as fast as possible.
I used to help teach women's self defense and the first thing we had to do was to get most of the women to stop apologizing when they accidentally made contact. It's weird the first time you hit somebody! It gets pretty fun when you're good at it though.
I can say that this may be my favorite season of the show and they did that working from the worst of the 4 Reacher novels I read. I have been super impressed. The fake kidnapping that kicks it off is a Rube Goldberg mess but the rest of the season has been really solid.

Like, yes and why would I stay?
It was such a weird convo.
The first time I got punched in the face I was like 8 or 9 and I did not see it coming and did I punch her back? No my ass ran.
Most people run.
This is doubly true for conservatives. They aren't used to real opposition.
Am I bad at fighting? yes.
But can I throw a punch? Yes
Hope that helps

*Variant was to kick him in the nuts 😉
