The border stuff is crazy but so is the dairy stuff. Canada has like a 1% share of the world dairy market and the US has like a $300 million surplus in dairy trade with Canada.

as a Canadian even we would say there is a reasonable issue w dairy. essentially there's a small cadre of Quebec dairy farmers that are politically valuable that insist on a system of supply management to artificially keep prices up/reduce comp. most Cans would benefit w supply management removed.

Even with those protections in place, US dairy trade with Canada has expanded 63% over the past decade. Canadian consumers would probably benefit from removing those protections but it hasn't really hurt the US dairy industry. Seems like he's trying to blame Canada for lost demand in Europe and Asia

that's being said, similar to our banking sector, we don't want our company flooded w US product esp those pushing for deregulation. health standards on some dairy products are higher than US - so there's legit issues of complaint both ways
