When I saw a red-eared slider in a park in Tokyo, I had to laugh because there are so many invasive Asian species here, and at least we had something to give back.
The snappers here (in Michigan) can definitely be aggressive. 😂 My dad used a tractor with the bucket to move one once because it was jumping (his words) at him. And I had a pretty large one climb the outside stairs to my apartment once, too. Thankfully that one was pretty relaxed.
Since you're here, why not watch my video on the assassination of the shogun whose mother's family would eventually found this temple? Sorry, no turtles - but plenty of Kamakura Buddhism. https://youtu.be/gRIffDGI6Lo
If that’s Kyoto you mean, then those are invasive species, from America. 😅 Once a very popular pet imported & sold everywhere, but now certified as undocumented illegal immigrants… They look relaxed & brazen, though.😆
I'm in the minority here, but I'd prefer to be living the life like my two cats live. I'd rather not swim in dicey water and eat bugs, but sleep in the sun and snack when I'm hungry and and enjoy lots of warm, cozy comfort.
Don’t think my spirit animal is a snapper turtle. I think my spirit animal is a psychopath. Does that count? It’s not like they are fully human, anyway, right?
Sounds like a pretty good life, doesn’t it. I wonder how I get an application for my next life? Red-eared snapper turtle looking for home in a pound at old zen temple…
Like the Getty Museum in LA. Imagine working there, likely supported by a billion dollars or of endowment, the finest location, the grounds, buildings, maintenance, all perfectly taken care of, your position involving finding, purchasing, installing the world's finest art works. What better heaven.

Now I want to visit!! What a beautiful country.
Did you mean this species of Red Eye turtle? If so, they are not snapping turtles. I've had turtles all my life including Red ears and Snapping turtles. They are not the same.
God, that was so messed up!🐢 Forgive us!
I envy him
Just wondering if I've been there.
Red-Eared Sliders (native to North America & invasive in Japan) are in the Emydidae family,
While Snapping turtles are in the Chelydridae family.
