THE HOUSE ON TRUBNAYA is a romantic comedy about a young woman (and her pet duck) in the big city, where she finds love and the joy of organized labor.

Here is director Boris Barnet in a cameo giving directions to Vera Maretskaya.
Barnet was a boxer-turned-actor who turned his hand to directing after a few close calls (Lev Kuleshov very nearly got him killed a few times with ill-advised stunts).
Kuleshov had Barnet do things like dangle between two high rise buildings on a rope and actually jump from moving car to moving car. Kuleshov was inspired by Hollywood stunts but failed to account for fakery and safety measures. "Up to the 10th floor with you, Boris!"
Directing worked out well for Barnet and I like his rom-coms a lot. He was particularly good at directing women, encouraging his performers to be lively and assertive.
