It is also an established fact that beer drunk at the bar tastes better if you have one foot on the foot rail. The science: everything is connected to everything else.
lol that’s my favorite way to drink water from the tap!
My actual favorite way is having a filtered refrigerated water pitcher pouring into a frosted glass full of ice. If i could drink ice as-is I would, water isn’t ever cold enough.
My favorite invention as a child was the Brita pitcher. I still have the OG one and I'm an adult now, and there's nothing better than filtering the water, chilling it, and having it over ice 🧊
what they mean with "split cup"?
..a cup of coffee with two separate chambers? I don't get it o__o
" three testing groups according to the shape of the cup in which the coffee was served (tulip, open, or split).
the sweetness and acidity to be significantly more intense in the split cup"
That's not clear to me, either. A split shot coffee is 2 shots of espresso, 1 made by the conventional method & the other made with less water. The methods result in different flavor profiles, which create a broad, balanced profile once they are mixed. It appears that they are layered in glass mugs.
My favorite was purchased on my honeymoon and has a neat little handmade divot on the handle to rest my thumb on, two factors well-understood to impact taste.
My favourite mug was a xmas present from my brother in 1992. I have used it mostly since then. The transfer on it has faded so much, it's almost invisible.
I'm also proud to still have it: nearly 35 years old and not even a chip
...and although sparklinigly clean, coffee DOES taste better out of it.
My students know I love coffee so I keep getting really good mugs for Christmas/Teacher Appreciation and I simply can't use them all. It's a first world problem but a problem nonetheless
Lol. That must be why when my husband brings my morning coffee in the wrong mug I sneakily put it in the dishwasher before having my second in the right cup!
It reallt does though. Plastic cups are garbage and makes your drink taste like garbage. This applies to warm drinks too.
Glass is good for cold.
Ceramic is the only good choice for hot. 😫
I am very particular about the vessel I use to contain my hot beverages. Those metal camping cups are THE worst! A deep, thick walled mug, with the kind of handle i like, preheated. 🫠 handmade is a bonus
For me, it has to be the standard size cup, whatever that means lol. Those big, Gilmore Girls size ones don’t work. Here’s my magical coffee with paw print shaped cream, by accident.
This. I have two chipped mugs with tractors on them, five mugs I stole from work and a couple of old ones that will do. I have no idea why we have all the other ones.
I have one & only one cup for my coffee, unless it’s evening & I have company. Hubby broke it, tried others & none fit my hand. I did manage to find the exact mug & my hands are happy. I also have one mug I use exclusively for tea. Big old Garfield mug. Tea just tastes better from it.
I was part of a wine tasting that gave us just two wines, but poured them in 5 different glass types. The difference was huge. I presume that even if the shape is the same, thickness, material used and other parameters have an effect on heat retention and transfer, and mouth feel.
Absolutely true. The material, thickness and texture of the cup affects the taste slightly, and the design/apperance can affect your perception/expectation.
A good example is say, a thick wooden cup with engraved designs vs a porcelin thin cup with colorful patterns.
Wood tends to absorb things.
Every morning it's the same decision: WHICH MUG AM I TODAY? The Lichtenbergian Society mug? the Lichtenbergian Precepts mug? the lizard mug? the Roy Kent Fuck No mug? WHAT IF I CHOOSE WRONG, KENNETH??
Our coffee is the treat between the cruelty of waking up and dealing with the day. We bond with our escapisms. The cup *delivers* our escapism in this case. It takes on a talismanic quality and becomes part of the process. Therefore it feels like we've missed part of the treat if it's missing.
It absolutely does. The mug my grand-daughter bought for me? yields hot strong coffee. The mug over there, from who knows where/when, that just kind of lives in the cupboard? yields weak brown sadness water.
I can’t trust you if you don’t have a favorite coffee mug and a backup favorite in case that’s one’s dirty. I will, however, believe every word you tell me if your mugs are ranked by most to least desirable.
I had like 8 of these, all the same. Many of them have since been broken. Dunno what I’ll do when the last goes, been using these Pier 1 luminous porcelain mugs for decades and they don’t make them anymore 😭
It also depends on what I am doing when I am drinking the coffee. If I will be drinking it right away I use one of these (I have several all this shape but different designs). If I need it to stay hot for a while I pull out my yeti. Lukewarm coffee is unpleasant.
I have a tin camping cup from Iceland that I love... I find that because it cools faster than a porcelain mug, I drink it faster. But it's also bigger than the average mug.
I have boiled water before I go to work in the morning and that can only be drunk from one of three mugs. These mugs are never used for tea. I have two specific mugs for tea which are very large. There is a separate mug for green tea. I need a hobby.

It's the perfect size for 12oz of coffee + cream and sugar, while leaving enough room to not worry about spilling if I walk around with it.
Gonna ask to be buried with that thing.

I went with my Drexel cup because it's the biggest. I'm having one of those.
drinking a martini out of a margarita glass just isn't the same
Hubby uses an American Diner mug.
What does that say about him?
He prefers a light roast: black, no sugar.

My Frida Kahlo cup, with one of my favorite quotes: “Feet, what do I need them for if I have wings to fly.”
