All nectar-dependent birds are extremely aggressive, including sunbirds, honeyeaters in Australia, and honeycreepers in Hawaii. They defend their sources of sugar. Years ago, I watched a Hawaiian ʻIʻiwi that claimed a huge flowering tree to itself, and would chase any other bird that tried to visit
