Please forgive the shameless self promotion, but here is a page from my latest book, The Wheel is Spinning but the Hamster is Dead (the phrase is mentioned on the previous page, hence the illustration of the hamster)...

Most probably it was someone from Germany as this type of greens is called differently in other German speaking countries: "Vogerlsalat" in Austria and "Nüsslisalat" in Switzerland.
1 reminds me a little of animator Chuck Jones' description of his early boss Leon Schlesinger who, Jones said, didn't have a head - "his neck just grew up and haired over".
ha delightful, also I am now obliged by law after looking at your bio to ask you where you grew up in Manchester/went to school. (Rusholme/Parrswood for me)
Ah always great to meet a fellow Manc! I grew up in Audenshaw and went to school at Audenshaw High (as did Mick Hucknall, Tony Walsh and, apparently, the guy that created IMDB)
Stupid as soup is my new favorite phrase. I'm sure that I'll have a chance to use it soon while I'm at work, despite the fact that I work at a library. I misread it at first and thought that it said soap, not soup, i think that I like soap much better.
I’m currently enjoying Covid and this made me laugh so much I started passing out. It is clearly not safe for me to read the book right now but I’ll remember it for later!
Ah that's brilliant! I'll sign it for you next time I go see her if you like. And thank you again for all the great Norwegian phrases you've been passing on!
May I add
"too stupid to pee a hole in the snow",
"stupid as bean straw" and concerning the birthday cake a slightly different way is "Not the brightest candle on the Christmas tree."
Currently someone told me they say "not the sharpest tool in the barn", I guess it was Australia or New Zealand.
I hate to be a SpassBremse and you probably have this but Denglisch for Better Knowers by Adam Fletcher and Paul Hawkins covers this topic really well.

As stupid as toast.
Too stupid to spill a bucket of water.
(With him) the dime drops penny by penny.
2. As stupid as bread
1. He only has a head so his throat does not get wet when it rains
And, yes please, do sign it. I would love that, Adam!
Thanks. X
