the fact Oil corporations knew about this in the 1970s & even the 50s .. yet most MAGA fans seem to think its a green conspiracy ... when it was in EXONs own memos 😂😬😭🙏
They are not intrinsically stupid. But they are belligerently, willfully stupid. A choice they've made. That is so much worse, speaking directly to their (despicable) character and (lack of) morals. It seems an intractable problem: roughly half the population being, by choice, horrible people.
THANK YOU! I hate it when people deny that climate change is the single largest threat to humanity right now.
While I agree that things like war and social issues are important, they are less important than if the earth spits us out and we die a horrible flaming death.
Playing this now and finding it hilarious to the point of laughing out loud. I wonder if it has been tested on actual deniers? The variety of tautologies are especially fun :)
Excellent appearance! I recently got into a vigorous conversation with a neighbor about climate change. I urged him to do some reading (starting with Wikipedia) but he didn't trust that. I replied that he should read the papers cited on Wiki. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink
How do you suggest dealing with a relative who says, “You can’t believe the scientists because they’re are all paid to say that! If they told the truth they’d lose their cushy jobs (lol) and giant grants (lol).”
One prob I’ve seen: the belief that the granting agencies only give grants to people who further the “alarmist agenda”. I try discussing how granting agencies are nonpartisan, and that scientists *love* contradicting other researchers, but only when data support that. What to do when that fails?
you have to realize that is not the real problem - it's just an excuse. Addressing excuses is like playing the whack-a-mole game at the fair: as soon as you whack one down, the next one pops up. That's why I suggest a 90 degree pivot! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkMIjbDtdo0
Tell them about Patrick Moore who is paid by oil concerns to pass himself off as a climate scientist. Then ask them, would polluters be paying scientists from other fields to pretend to be something they’re not and make up a bunch of nonsense if real climate scientist weren’t onto something?
That’s a common fallacy. In fact, the smarter and more educated people are, the better they are at motivated reasoning, and the more divided they are on climate change. The biggest dismissives are often the smartest.
I don’t think that’s true. Higher education levels are correlated with concern/acceptance of climate change. While I’m sure some educated individuals are using motivated reasoning to dismiss it, it’s likely partisanship driving that impact. furthermore… relevant education makes even more difference.
In other high income countries, conservative ideology attenuates, but does not reverse climate concern. In low income countries, it’s all about education.
None of this seems to confirm that highly educated people are using motivated reasoning in the U.S. to deny climate change. In fact, I’d say the evidence points to that not being the case. Which makes sense, given people’s political positions largely form through socialization and upbringing.
Anyways, all this tells me is increased education tends to correlate with higher acceptance of climate change, an effect that is dulled by right-wing partisanship, a result not of motivated reasoning but rather, prior beliefs not being challenged since their education isn’t relevant…

I predict news stories coming out of this one. Domestic incidents,
like the lady that ran her husband down with their car because he voted for Obama
Expletive-friendly?
Expletive-dependant?
I have to remind myself whenever I watch a Scottish comedian that when they use the c-word they just mean people! 🤣

Oh, and remind them that once they do get the grant, they'll have to keep detailed accountings (with receipts) for every penny spent.

100 more cool points for you 🙌🏼😎
And the 90 companies responsible for most of our emissions! 😳
BTW, that pic is only used on those who come at me with insults and name calling regarding Climate Change. I happily haven't used it on BSK.

1. Is climate change real?
2. Is it humanity’s biggest problem?
My answers would be 1: yes, 2: no.
