For all those out there not from Yorkshire (or the north of England), by far the best way to eat Christmas cake is with Wensleydale cheese. The cheese originated with French Cistercian monks from the Roquefort region, who settled at Fors Abbey and later Jervaulx in Wensleydale.

It’s called Binham Blue and you can buy it in the cafe next to the Binham abbey ruins. You may be able to source it from other outlets.
Absolutely worth it to get your hands on some.

So, aye.

I was always given a mini whole Wensleydale to take home with me when I visited my parents over Christmas. We knew the farmer whose cows produced the milk which made the cheese. Sheer poetry in cheese form!
(Yeah, Cheshire's good too!)
Not a tradition you find in Lancashire!
