Someone mentioned to me the idea of “brain failure” by analogy to heart failure and I gotta say there’s something to that notion. The irate patient who’s demanding to go home and, when reminded that they are unable to stand and have no one to care for them, gets even more irate? Brain failure.

Once they got that sorted, he was back to his old self & sharp as a tack. Turns out brains like oxygen.
We know AKI: delirium is just the same thing in the brain. The result of multiple possible injuries, more common in people who have chronic brain failure (dementia or MCI) and we don't have therapies other than supportive.

I consider it a personal victory if I can get them to trust the process.
1) one massive injury to a healthy organ OR
2) a lifetime of repeated chronic injuries
to trigger
