It’s his way of thinking of his place in history.
An huge fan of Putin and Xi (precisely because they’ve been so ambitious in attaining, maintaining and wielding power *and* spreading their influence), he believes he can and will be precisely that kind of leader ‘for’ the U.S..
If Trump wants to defeat China's growing influence, all he has to do is arm Ukraine and let them win against Russia and show who's boss. Will he though?
