We're quick to point out when victims of respiratory infections were 'older' or had 'underlying medical conditions'. It's meant to be reassuring. But it should be just the opposite. It should be cause for concern, not reassurance, when we fail to protect people in more vulnerable circumstances.

And consider that older people and other medically vulnerable members of society are often the canary in the coal mine, signaling danger to all. It behooves us to ensure their protection as it provides protection for the greater population as well.
