I am terrified. My stepfather is in remission from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and has to have monthly infusions for his compromised immune system. We live in the Texas panhandle where a possible case was reported to our school district where my mother works.
Really, we know the basic stuff. Just protect yourself the best you can. WE DID NOT GET THIS FAR IN THE US for Comrade Krasnov and his propagandist to destroy it. Hopefully, someone will stop this
All I can do is send you my best wishes for his safety. The fact he has been dealing with the risks and already has the mindset to stay safe is miles ahead of most of the population and gives him a good chance to get through this.
Measles is thought to have originated in the Middle East between the 11th and 12th centuries. It likely evolved from rinderpest, a virus that infects cattle, and then jumped to humans.
Europeans brought measles to the Americas, where it had devastating effects on isolated communities.
You'd damn me to hell for speaking my mind. And that doesn't include the swearing about the fucking assholes that are stupid enough and heartless enough not to vaccinate their children, much less about the (expletives deleted) who know better but tell everyone not to vaccinate for money
I had measles in 1959 when I was 8. I can confidently say it was the sickest I’ve ever been before or since, and I’m an old lady now. I survived but I wouldn’t wish that illness on anyone, especially a helpless child.
wish it were mumps (not as virulent) and that it would infect lots of grown men, unvaxxed. once their testicles swell to the size of grapefruit they may reconsider their stance on vaccines.
I worked in health care. I'm horrified and heartbroken that something so easily preventable is spreading. Kids are innocent and shouldn't suffer because of their parents' foolishness.
I'm very grateful that my mom made certain that I got the full series of vaccines while I was growing up.
Well, if you want to get biblical about it, the last of the seven plagues took all the firstborn sons of the Egyptians unless their parents marked their doors with the blood of the lamb.
Child welfare is often reactive, though, not proactive. So if the child gets a serious illness and they withhold care, maybe the state will get involved. But if they don’t actively prevent serious illness, that is a parenting choice.
I got measles because the vax was not yet available. Missed it by like 6 months or a year. It was a harrowing experience, miserable, left my respiratory system funky for years.
If infants who can’t be vaccinated were not at the highest risk of death, brain damage and blindness, I’d be less stressed out by it. People willing to play Russian roulette with their children’s lives probably aren’t having kids who are going to be helpful. Sorry.
Yeah, so right ! the Republicunts are ok that your child dies from the measles because the parents chose not to get them vaccinated.... but they will persecute anyone who has anything to do with an abortion... the parents should be prosecuted for that child's death !!!
Natural selection. It's just a tragedy innocent children without an understanding of what is happening are the ones who will be culled from the population.
Mine were hippies. We made our own soap, no TV, kerosene lanterns instead of electricity .. but even we were vaccinated.
Their parents and had friends who didn't make it through childhood because of now-preventable diseases. I think talking to older generations is important, to remember
Sadly, I believe that our herd of moronic biological terrorist anti-vaccine jackasses needs some thinning out. Children will suffer most, but whaddya gonna do?!
If it only infected the people who are choosing not to vaccinate themselves then i say let them do it. Nature is a teacher with powerful lessons. Those who are vaccinated have learned that lesson and do not wish to repeat it. Unfortunate that it is the kids who suffer. So im antimeasels outbreak
I had it when I was 5 (1969) a brutal strain that went straight for the eyes.
Every single one of the dozen or so kids in my school that had it, has suffered some degree of permanent visual impairment because of it.
FFS! Vaccinate your children.
I'm trying not to go there, but I get it. I'm curious, what dose of reality will wake these people up? Would widespread measles in their base do it? I'm not sure.
Angry, as it’s unnecessary. The CDC recommends at least one dose of the MMR vaccine for people in the United States born after 1957 who aren't immune to measles. A smart choice for grandparents!
Should never have happened, but you can't force people to get vaccinated, but when it comes down to children dying needlessly, maybe we should. OK, you think vaccinations are made from dead fetuses, maybe that person could actually research how many diseases vaccinations have wiped out. stupid wins.
Not too worried for me personally but going to ask about a booster. Saw that because of the year I was born I probably only got one shot instead of the 2 that are standard today. No cases so far in my state.
Not a fan of the spread. FYI if you got your measles vaccine in the 60s-70s you may have been given one from the bad batch. A repeat stab would be smart. I got the MMR a couple of years ago.
Adults who were vaccinated for measles between 1963 and 1968 should check their vaccination history. During that time, a version of the vaccine that used an inactivated form of the virus was available that was found to not be as effective Only 600,000–900,000 were affected
As a person who takes 3 different immune system inhibitors, I’m feeling pretty good about getting an MMR booster 2 weeks ago. Fuck measles and fuck RFKjr.
Its possible. But a never know. I grew up in a farm in Tennessee, served in the military and was even an over the road trucker. By every normal metric you'd think I'd be republican as they come. You can fight your environment, especially when that environment has so many holes in their logic
But its not the norm either for sure. As someone that's tried explaining things to people here I've about given up 😅 then I see some punked out teens looking like I did and think at least some real rebel country is still happening amongst these boot lickers.
Measles are super cute little animals! They build little houses fashioned from the wood they’ve harvested and shaved down using their enlarged front teeth. 10/10!! Measles Are Great Again!!!
Mixed… on one hand, I worry about the children who will become ill. On the other hand, I could slap the parents, who probably got the vaccine, for enabling an illness to flourish that was practically eradicated 25 years ago.
I feel…vaccinated! Thanks for asking, God. How do you feel about the spread of measles? I mean, you gave us doctors and scientists with the knowledge to create the tools necessary to help us prevent the awful effects of such scourges.
Measles/rubeola is dangerous for the pregnant & unborn but it’s Rubella aka German measles that causes congenital abnormalities. Actress Gene Tierney contracted rubella while pregnant from a fan. Her baby girl was born blind, deaf & severely mentally disabled. https://www.goodrx.com/conditions/measles/rubella-vs-rubeola
I'm quite nervous about it & all the other communicable diseases going around. I'm immunocompromised & undergoing treatment for breast cancer so I can't receive any vaccinations right now. My partner & I get stares when we mask in public, which is always.
Walgreens let me schedule an mmr shot online. Didn’t need a test or doctor visit. (was vaxxed as a kid but there were 2 cases here in Houston in January)
Callously smug. I have my shots, my children have their shots, and my grandchildren have their shots. I had to occasionally remind my kids,"I 'm not raising stupid people." Very proud of three kids with ten college degrees among them. AS to PHD. I know that middle child will get that PHD too.
Not vaccinating children against a deadly virus is child neglect. Parents should be held responsible. And, RFK, Jr. should be held responsible if he promotes this idea of not vaccinating that puts children at risk. My children were vaccinated. They are alive, well and productive members of society.
It’s ironic how conservatives were worried about “death panels” during the Obama Care debates. Now it seems that government is going to willingly cut research on vaccines, which will leave the most vulnerable even more so. I would not be surprised if that is part of their plan to solve the
Well, I got all the required shots when I started school. I'm fifty six and they say if he got the two shots for measles, you don't need a booster, so i'm not gonna get it. I don't think democratic families are going to get it because they're not stupid.Less republicans yay
Depends?
Where’s it spreading?
NO!
Little kids are dying!!
This isn’t funny!
It sucks is how I feel.
Scientists, researchers and laboratory workers all but eliminated measles with a single shot.
But joe rogan has big biceps and doubts vaccines so, measles is back!
I feel like a strand should be injected into what's left of Bobby's worm eaten brain. And a picture of every child that dies should be tattooed on him as a reminder. How's that for my feelings?
As a nurse, I’m mentally preparing for next winter’s chaos—Flu, Bird Flu, Measles, & a new hemorrhagic disease—while funding drops after the Medicaid cuts, research stalls without the CDC/NIH, & WHO support vanishes. Meanwhile, the gov will try gaslighting us into believing nothing’s wrong.
Wait til they stop Medicaid and nursing homes close. Everyone seems to think the elderly will just be wheeled out in wheelchairs to die in the street, but the truth is, they will all end up in hospitals where there won't be enough beds or staff, so they will just sit there
It’s going to be awful. Safe discharges for Medicaid patients are already challenging, with weeks-long waits for nursing facility beds. This winter, some patients waited so long for an impatient bed they were discharged from the ED. Next winter, the parking lot tents for ED patients will return.
Our best chance to #SaveMedicaid is to

I’m against it.
I had it at age 5, missed about a month of kindergarten, had encephalitis and tonsillitis but luckily avoided permanent damage. The vaccine came out about a year later.
It was inevitable. Once you had higher percentages of the unvaccinated living in areas where they can’t depend on the rest of responsible people in society to give them herd immunity it was always going to catch fire. The sad thing is the children that will suffer. Irresponsible idiots.
I think those in power are trying to cull. If we see them make measles vaccines unavailable if the number of ppl with measles goes up, we will know for sure.
Sucks because my step-son is 4 and is prone to getting sick. This would devastate his mother a lot to the point that I fear for her mental well being. I hope that he never gets it because it would be the last straw for me as well.
It's revealed an utter lack of empathy in the head of HHS, which is horrific. I can only assume that RFK Jr is either happy or doesn't care a bit about the spread of measles, because he's offered no sympathy or advice despite the fact that doing so is literally his job.
I don't have kids. Just wanna say that first, and if I did have kids, they would have been military brats. That said, I think parents that don't vaccinate their kids should be charged with child abuse. (I really don't know how much it costs people to get vaccinated, but it can't be more than $50)
reading an article about measles vaccines and how long they’re good for written last year, it’s talking about how as of May 2nd the US had been going through the then-largest outbreak we’d seen since 2000. here we are, February 27th a year later and we’re already up to 121 known cases and 1 death.
the numbers for May 2nd, 2024 were 131 cases across 21 states btw (sorry, had to delete to get it right, my b. can’t seem to find an ‘edit’ option for posts here)
I'm in Australia. What was the tyranny of distance is now our only hope. We're not going anywhere for at least the next 6 years. No overseas school camps for my daughter, no O/S holidays for us, not even New Zealand. We're watching the US crash and burn, and our hearts are heavy.
There was a confirmed case in Australia today. The proportion of people not vaccinating here has increased, too. I think people are realising the consequences now, with measles, whooping cough and polio reappearing. Most people here can be educated to help keep rates up.
I don't feel we need to go overboard. I'm still travelling to Japan and Europe, just wont set foot on American soil. As for measles, it's tragic but the risk to the vaccinated is beyond low.
The world is small. It's not just measles, it's the flu, the lack of work on emerging viruses, growing unrest and regional conflict, Musk's AI controlling the airways, and being mistaken for a US citizen that concern me.
No way we'll ever be mistaken for US citizens :) Musks AI controlling airways is only a problem for the US at this stage. There are vaccines for flu as there is for measles. Conflict is a risk for sure, but i'm not going to let it define me

Just sayin'.
Vaccinate your kids, please.

Immunoglobins work if administered within 6 days
Neither are 100%, but both prevent more than 90% of fatalities
Europeans brought measles to the Americas, where it had devastating effects on isolated communities.
Texas is killing its children by being vaccine free.
I'm very grateful that my mom made certain that I got the full series of vaccines while I was growing up.
/SNARK OFF
On the other hand, I say let the Darwin Effect do its thing.
Wtf
I hate to be crude, but you should have known better than to let your kid unprotected.
Most of us old folks came down with measles, mumps, chickenpox.
We brought every disease home from school.
Also go out to exercise.
It is good your body.
I think that the main motivation was to avoid a scenario where we survive the apocalypse, then die of of tetanus.
We (myself and my sisters) were supposed to die in childbirth like God intended.
Their parents and had friends who didn't make it through childhood because of now-preventable diseases. I think talking to older generations is important, to remember
It's weird how much I have in common with the hippie kids I meet, lol
Make Black Plague Great Again.
Other than that, natural selection.
Every single one of the dozen or so kids in my school that had it, has suffered some degree of permanent visual impairment because of it.
FFS! Vaccinate your children.
PLEASE repost so that women of childbearing age KNOW that they must be vigilant .. especially teachers/day care workers ect...
I'm worried about next flu season because President Dipshit & RFK Jr just killed chance for drug makers to produce correct vaccine for coming seasons.
This isn't about personal choice to not get vaxxed, this is denying the ability for EVERYONE to get the right vax.
That means even after two doses, 3 in 100 children do not have immune protection.
You don't know if your child is in the 3 or the 97 group.
Be vigilant. Immuno-globin treatment is highly effective if given within 6 days of exposure.
1st death in 10 years in Texas...not a peep from the governor on wheels
