Games media have always shied away from covering indie games because they just don't get clicks.
True 15 years ago, true now.
Was always frustrating to get a "sorry, we can't cover your game" email at the same time an article went live called "REVEALED: the Top Ten bannisters in CoD".

Now I'm not saying you can't get coverage, but there ALWAYS needed to be an angle beyond "hey, I made this", it's been the nature of the beast forever.
People have just. stopped. clicking. through.
Content overload. I don't know what the trick is anymore, if there is one.
But the money approach tends to mean shouting louder than the previous guy. And how exactly does one saturate the already saturated?
Hmm. That gives me an idea for a game...
BUT journalists trying your game I've found very rarely comes from an email asking them to play your game.
That was an *age* ago, though!
Media has been rendered basically useless, except maybe for their review scores.
Mind you, it’s all about social media and influencers these days - that’s really what will sell a game, not some article on a website.
Influencers always had the same problem, the big ones just covered Minecraft, CoD and Fortnite because they get the clicks. Exactly same issue!
I think I heard Tom Francis speculate at the time like "what if you just made the sale counter on your site and just... lied to get press, till it eventually matched up"
It's a really amazing game and we'll designed.
Not one of the big publishers would ever take a risk like this.
Engage with people who do reviews on social media and you’ll have better luck (and better quality review)!
