I need to go look at the Science paper because at least the summaries seem to be hitting the less interesting part, with the more interesting part being you can train them to recognize a symbol or tone as signifying a specific quantity.

I don't think -- I have looked it over now, but even in the description -- that it goes that far, but just linking a number symbol to a specific quantity of an action, yeah. You want to follow up and see if they seem to know it might also mean so many, like, rocks or leaves or whatever.
