SAD😂 Nice that Kentucky distiller owners are confirming that removal of their products from Canadian sales is effective. Pity Kentuckian MAGA morons can’t comprehend that supporting trump and GOP is bad for them.
What 🇨🇦 is doing to Kentucky bourbon is unjust, but Trump breaking the USMCA trade agreement with the goal of weakening the 🇨🇦 economy so he can ANNEX a sovereign nation is perfectly acceptable according to Kentucky distillers?🤬 Y'all can shove your bourbon up your collective asses-now and forever
There is nothing unjust about what Canada is doing. They don't want to do it but have been forced to do it by a tub of lard in the oval office of the US White House.
Bourbon, by virtue of being solely an American product by legal definition, is more vulnerable to tariffs than any other product. One would think, then, that the bourbon industry would be the first to pressure U.S. officials to NOT launch trade wars. Fuck 'em for shifting the blame.
The industries hierarchies might shift the blame out of cowardice, but I'm betting the employees who suffer the most from this will call it like it is.
Thanks for the link. I wrote, "I've now stopped drinking bourbon until you place the blame with Vladimir Trump, the originator of the tariffs, and not on those responding to his stupid tariffs.
It's time to be American and show a spine.
Until then, I'm not buying another bottle of bourbon."
Who cares who they blame? It doesn’t change the fact that Canada, as a sovereign country, can do whatever they want. They didn’t start this. The people who would place the blame on Canada are the same ignorant voters who refuse facts.
I'm pretty sure they blindly donated to Donnie's campaign thinking it was going to work out bigly for them! I couldn't be laughing harder watching it blow up in their faces
They also have a problem in that we make a boatload of whisky up here. Some stuff is hard to get other than from the states. Mediocre spirits, not so much.
That’s the ultimate “we voted to fuck over others but didn’t think it would happen to us” line from the bourbon industry. Direct that anger at who started this asinine pissing match.
Not surprised by this KDA statement, but I’ll add that not all KY distilleries are members. Buffalo Trace distillery pulled out years ago and continues to go its own way. Untamed indeed, and hoping it stays that way.
Yeah. Maybe they believe Trump tariffs good, Canada tariffs bad. But they are probably trying to thread the needle and not anger the toddler in the White House
That’s rich coming from the KDA. Blame your president who started the tariffs that could cost hundreds of thousands of jobs in Canada. Spend your time and energy lobbying your government to end all tariffs instead of crying us a river. Maybe your Kentucky MAGAts will start to see the light.
Sharing what I’ve been doing as a Canadian. Just emailed all US stores as well as Woodford as to why I am unsubscribing & not buying from them (lunatic president). Buying products/groceries from Canada or any other country other than US. Threaten Canada and impose tariffs what has the US become?
I was out at an event for the PDAC in Toronto this week and the door prizes were what they said were the last three bottles of bourbon in the province since the LCBO doesn’t buy US booze anymore and they got the last three
This is pathetic. They gave tons of money to Trump, he stabbed them in the face, and they couldn't even call him out by name. This is pain that they're now earning.
As I read this the KDA is pointing out how harmful retaliatory tariffs are to the KY & US economies. Seems they assume people are smart enough to see that the Trump administration’s actions are the cause of that retaliation. Reading the comments here I’d say the KDA is giving some too much credit.
Very short-sighted view @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social
Do you not think the KDA understands what’s bringing about the retaliatory tariffs? I suspect, no, I KNOW the KDA fully understands where the problem lies. To point out how much harm this will cause doesn’t indicate not knowing who’s at fault.
Is that why they only blame "retaliatory tariffs" in the statement and inflate their numbers by including thousands of bartenders as people "employed" by them.
Then why are they only claiming about the "retaliatory" tariffs and not the idiotic and unprompted tariffs which caused it? If they truly want this to stop they and everyone else who supports this administration needs to push back.

Canadians do drink a lot, so this is a big impact on Kentucky. But with the ongoing situation in the U.S. I believe everyone there will pick up the slack.

RETALIATING AGAINST WHAT?
Canada has a right to retaliate.

"Let them eat raw earth."
There are a lot of us that still see Canada and it's people as friends.

It is neither of those things. Canada is fully justified in doing everything necessary to defend itself from aggression.
There were 7,169 people employed in the Whiskey & Bourbon Distilleries in the US as of 2024.
They’re counting bartenders …
It also begs the question of why they're so worried about foreign markets anyway when they make their shit so hard to find in the US.
Like, what's the matter big boy? Are you mad that your artificial scarcity tactic is about to be found out?

Zero concern or acknowledgement of the same harm being done to good hard working Canadians because of the orange shit gibbons tariffs.
Canada, fuck our shit up, we’ve got it coming
