“Where is this uncertainty coming from? That’s easy: The U.S. government is currently under the control of a deeply ignorant, vengeful megalomaniac with zero impulse control. And it’s not just Elon Musk: Trump shares the same characteristics.”
how long will it take for people to notice that their taxes are the same (or higher) and yet they get no services in return? Kinda like an involuntary donation (to Trump and his oligarchs)
Your post is purely empty of anything refuting the “BS”.Paul is correct & if you don’t believe PK, do you believe EM? Cause Musk said changes will be painful. Here’s a suggestion, maybe vote better in the future so you don’t have feel stupid after your 1st choice comes to power & ruins USA economy
GM is unable to invest in America. If they close all plants in Mexico and Canada and rebuild them inside US. It would require many decades and hundreds of billions of dollars. The factory Biden helped build in Lordstown Ohio took a decade and several billion dollars. Trump may change mind tomorrow.
He’s totally rattled the markets. I don’t get why many investors thought the destructive blowhard buffoon cared about market vitality. I argued with friends about this. trump couldn’t care less about market health.
Trump views default as a legitimate business practice. The notion here of a possible default (100-year conversion) on U.S. sovereign debt should scare the hell out of everyone. It will have an unimaginable worldwide impact.
The cycle continues… W. Bush destroyed Clinton’s economy, Trump destroyed Obama and now most likely Biden’s economy. Why do fools keep electing Republicans!?
Even reading the first paragraph, whether he put in the tariffs or not is irrelevant. Once they are threatened prices change. It fucks over small and mid business.
I am not an economist, and I know it can be difficult for trained and experienced economists to forecast a downturn, but good God, how could that not happen, in the current climate? We have a (likely by design) incompetent administration, raising all these red flags? What TF gives, otherwise?
So true. And in a nutshell:
"The U.S. government is currently under the control of a deeply ignorant, vengeful megalomaniac with zero impulse control. And it’s not just Elon Musk: Trump shares the same characteristics."
The elected president is trying very hard to tank our economy and wait - diseases and death, too as epidemics are ignored. My income is in mutual funds, Social Security and a small federal annuity. Seriously looking at selling my home I do not expect the real estate to hold its value either
My small business is going through exactly this. We don’t want to make any investments, even ones that are desperately needed, in the face of some of these worst case scenarios.
This all seems bad, even in a biblical sense. "When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain." Exodus 32:19
A florist shop I know just had their worst Valentine's ever here in CA. They all voted for Trump.
Consumer sentiment is taking a nosedive from all the chaos, yes, but I wouldn't underestimate the impact of Trump breaking his inflation/price promise. It's a bad betrayal, gets people down.
Actually It Has Already Been Destroyed, As Consumer And Investor Confidence Tanked By 60% In Just One Month, With Bond Market Climbing On 5 Year Bonds, As People Prepare To Wait Out The Junk FelonTrump Administration.
A lot of investors are sitting in cash right now. My puny 401k is. Unlike the fat cats, I can't afford to ride out the market. Many of peers have already retired. That's not possible for me.
I've always been a stay the course guy. I didn't change anything when the dotcom & housing bubbles burst or when COVID hit. Despite all that, I just cut my exposure to equities by 20% because I see baaaad things coming and don't want to take the additional risk with retirement closing in.
This economy is definitely NOT “just right” for most Americans, Paul Krugman. You saying so is part of the problem for Democrats. Housing affordability, healthcare, cost of living are all aspects of our economy and they are failing most Americans.
I'm pretty sure Krugman wrote and spoke about all these issues in the last years. But it's absolutely certain that all these issues will be made worse by Trump. Higher cost of living with tariffs, worse healthcare with social security cuts.
“Most Americans?” That’s the sort of wild exaggeration that discredits legitimate criticism of problems. But housing is great for the majority who own houses. Healthcare? More people have insurance than ever before. If you stuck to reasonable criticisms your argument would go farther
This economy is not working for most Americans. No housing is not great, more having insurance as premiums go up and quality of care for many goes down isn’t working well. This is same blindness that led to ineffective messaging by Dems and loss of WH and Congress. Keep insisting won’t change it.
Can someone please beg an elected Democrat to message 1) trump republicans are causing a recession by indiscriminate firings and pulling money from the economy and 2) the GOP controls every branch of government and they are responsible for the shutdown
SSA 50% cutting is to stall and make it difficult to run.
And tell the rest of us - it is a mess and tinker with it.

I didn't major in economics. But I know enough to realize he couldn't have spent any time going to class at Wharton. Or reading the syllabus. Or taking any of the tests.
And that tiny handful are the ones to actually rule the world.
Always have, always will. But yes, every once in a while you can have a nice shuffle at the top by molotoving the palace and barbequing all the rich fucks.
As an engineer doing detail design for new plants and upgrades I don't see how our clients can make decisions on capital spending right now. We are working on FEL3 studies for multi-billion dollar upgrades to American manufacturing facilities and the uncertainty is insane.
Tariffs on steel will increase the cost of piping/building steel and we cannot even properly estimate these costs right now due to uncertainty. Tariffs on imported process equipment might add up to 25% to mechanical costs.
It's tempting to think that tariffs will bring back manufacturing but new plants are capital intensive/require a lot of material inputs which tariffs may make prohibitively expensive. Building expensive plants to make stuff at a higher price with uncertainty on future tariffs? Clients will hold off.
Exactly. Even if tariffs were going to last the result will be domestically made stuff that’s more expensive and probably lower quality. If we could make it better here we already would be doing so.
My point is that they have enough in reserve to outlast regular folks, and when everything has decreased in value and hit the floor, they swoop in and gobble up the assets for pennies on the dollar. Then when the value of those assets appreciates, their wealth grows exponentially...again.
Biden had the economy humming. Trump stopped everything, decimated the civil service, attacked our closest trading partners, threatened to deport hundreds of thousands of productive workers. Of course the economy is going to tank.
Fat Donny has captured all the levers of power. Most importantly, he has captured all the agencies that might hold him accountable. We are no longer in a functioning democracy. We are now into the fascist experiment. They had 4 years to come up with P2025, while we did... what to prepare?

How do you create a small business? Put Trump in charge of a large business. Same for the US economy.

For the second time!

So 🤷♀️
How are you liking this market chaos that your “dear leader” keeps injecting into the markets?
I’m sure your portfolios are loving seeing futures up everyday only to reverse course every time the moron speaks. 🤡
Tech company valuations.
It's a house of cards and Republicans are hyper toddlers.
