The old guard of the DNC hierarchy have been rebuked and rejected by their former voters. They no longer identify with Pelosi/Schumer's long-term strategy of playing defense and never pushing back. They want to fund raise off all the terrible things Maga has done without doing a thing to stop it.
Write about the similarities between the current Democratic party and the old USSR. Not in terms of policy, but the similarities in terms of longevity of the politicians serving in positions of power for decades W/O ANY COMPETITION! Why does no one challenge Pelosi during the primary?
Because they are more like Republicans than we all like to admit. While they may not be fascists, they are certainly corportists. It's why the ACA was a giant pile of shit instead of transformative legislation.
Dems have no clue when it comes to Messaging. They are sending faxes while the world is texting.Sorry if they keep putting the Senior Guard in positions if we even get to have an election again we will LOSE.
Republicans worked all 4 years to build a bad message and it won (with a little help from)
The Democratic National Convention this year, backseated mainstream media in favor of social media influencers. Harris eschewed most MSM in favor of local media and popular podcasters, so um... They have a clue. It just didn't work yet.
We've been sending our sons and daughters to sacrifice..., and face unspeakable atrocities for two hundred and forty eight years while we roll out red carpet for the very same malfeasance we based the value of their lives on... We have no moral ground... here. #YeahThat
Democracy’s enemy is perfection when good enough can get the job done. Clearly for MAGA they didn’t even settle for good enough, they chose a pile of shit 💩 😂
The guy who voted with Republicans to take away tax exemption for any non-profits that support groups Trump doesn't like (effectively killing their ability to do any work)
It depends. I’ve become so radicalized by how Dems have basically let the bad guys get away with it. That any bi-partisan speak from Jeffries makes me want to rip my head off.
This is so true and it’s infuriating. There are so many effective representatives that ran excellent campaigns and we don’t see that at the national level at all.
Dems are stuck in the status quo and the quo is no longer serving us. Maga accuses us of being “woke “ but we are sleeping while the quo has the reins and sees no need to pass them to the younger, vibrant, and extremely capable, next generation
Exactly & it is going to cost them dearly if there is another election. This is not only short sighted, but smacks of personal power/enrichment over the best interests of the party & further erodes the confidence of voters disenchanted with gov-this is why you have trump &🇨🇦is about to get Poilievre
In her book The Art of Power, which I'm ironically reading this week, Pelosi brags about getting younger Congress members involved in committees.
I guess she just meant younger than her.
To me yes. Accusing Israel of genocide is absurd when Jews have been the victims of genocide for millennia. Muslims want all Jews dead. And next they want all Christians dead. Wake up. Jews are fighting evil for the entire Western world.
It’s Pelosi and her minions. She needs to go and so does the rest of the geriatric wing.
There needs to be pressure placed on them NOW from Progressive media, Brian, and needs to be relentless. You, Kyle, MT, everyone needs to beat the drum — OFTEN AND LOUD.
But AOC shouldn't have played games before, throwing her support behind far left candidates to compete against Dem incumbents that we were fine with; showing how ununified we are. House Dems aren't going to forget sht like that. I sure didn't forget, even tho she very recently changed her ways.
The DNC needs a major overhaul--liken it to cleaning out the family garage, not just a rearranging face-lift. I suggest getting started now because it's likely to take a decade to get the broadest citizen involvement required to bring back anything resembling our once traditional democracy.
This was especially egregious as Connolly is undergoing treatment for throat cancer which will impair his ability to speak and perform his duties as chair
Gamblers drowning in debt, clutching at the same worn cards, convinced the next hand will change everything. Generational change? Effective voices? No, better to double down on losing bets. The wheel spins, the stakes climb, and the house always wins.
They really aren't learning from their failures. And it's largely because the leadership is in the hands of career politicians that are stuck in the past...or are too self interested.
Correct. We need to carefully research the candidates we are voting for. Their history, their present. Their policies, their actions. Pelosi needs to go, along with so many others. Crocket, aoc, the other young people doing their job for the people, those are who we need.
I am independent because MAGA is a cancer, and democrates are clueless and won't quit shooting their own. If someone is anti-fasist, they are friends. If they support facism, they are foe. Until you people learn this simple lesson, we can not move on to the harder ones like unity in diversity.
No being independent is just that I vote independently of party lines. Too many people look at the letter following the canadates name That is lazy
I actually research the policies and if already in office the voting history of each canadate.
I vote for the person who closest represents my values
Nothing will change unless Democrat voters have a CLEAR and CONCISE mandate for them. They aren’t listening because we aren’t demanding them to do so. We need to get organized and MAKE THEM LISTEN.
They refuse to learn and then condemn everyone who refuses to vote for people who play the part of the party concerned for the people, but when it comes time to deliver, they always defer.
I'm not a party loyalist. I vote for what makes sense. And they're losing it by becoming conservative lite.
We have a democratic senator @amyklobuchar.com pushing eagle legislation while Trump Musk and his cronies are trying to destroy our nation's institutions. We are fucked.
Shift with the paradigm. Being micro-triggered is playing their game.
The long play is to be tactical, not reactive. And to know that bureaucracy itself is a sea anchor regardless of what party/cult/coven is nominally in charge.
The long play is far more complex and intricate than glomming into it every topical 'inequality' that becomes vogue and treating it then like pork barrel legislation.
Is the long play then party building? Maybe not in the traditional sense; but certainly in assembling a workable coalition.
I mean speaking for myself I was just talking about right now, and whether we ourselves choose to freak out or not. If we're talking about "Democrats" and "40 years," well, over that span the Dems have controlled the Senate for 22 years, the House for 18, and the WH for 20, or exactly half.
Is sinking the leadership bid of one of your most talented politicians who also happens to be one of your more effective communicators and popular with the people you lost support from tactically sound? 🤷🏻♀️
Is she effective at preaching unity and support for the entire Democratic Party? Because that's what we need right now, and my experience based on following AOC's media is that she has a bad track record about that.
Not to mention, the optics from this are HORRIBLE and reinforce the perception of the party as a corrupt gerontocracy that is out of touch with most ppl
Based on what? Her voting record? Her supporting and campaigning first for Biden and then Harris? These purity tests will be our undoing. And what is the Dem Party? Are the voters not important? The disaffected base that we have to win back to have a chance?
if AOC is the Q... I suggest patience there. She is not the Liberal first elected, nor is she the most effective Liberal that she will/may become. I know that this is hard when NOW is how we have come to expect...
While the aging and failing Minority Chair is not optimal... time is still with her.
I think the impatience accompanying my comment there reflects the general impatience of not just the general public, but also that of our disaffected base and the progressive left which appears to be vindicated given what’s happened. Why not give these young ppl leadership oppos now 2 groom 4 later
The problem with "the long play" is that we're already out of time. I don't recommend reading Project 2025, but I do recommend knowing what's inside. They have a plan.
By the end of the year, the damage they will have done may be irreparable. We don't have 44 years to play a long game like they did.
Yeah I tend to agree. I mean, "fucking things up" at all is bad! And there will be some. But inertia is the most powerful force in the universe, the political universe or the real one. You've got to be a lot smarter than THESE people if you're going to take on the bureaucracy and win lol.
The long play has failed since 2016. There’s only so much he can fuck up? He can fuck up the entire US gov, suspending Constitution, getting rid of all agencies, all at the same time he’d be fucking up global democracies. Take off the rose coloured glasses already.
Yeah. But we are "fighting" this essentially by depending on platforms that cultivate Likes and Follows more than in discussing, formulating and then subscribing alternative policy.
The Medium is in fact the Message.
The very insidious kernel of the other place was not excised with the thugs.
I completely agree with you as do many on this platform. No one seems to have a good answer other than what is available here. If the leaders who are responsible are limited in doing anything then we are well behind the 8 ball. Minimizing what T can do is not the answer though. That is pure folly.
Nancy still makes money from insider trading, Schumer still in charge of the senate, 80 year olds who don’t know how to turn “find my phone” on without getting a 20 something aide to do it in charge of key senate comms, Dems talking about the positives of the incoming adm. We have been abandoned.
Amen. Someone needed to say it. Bernie isn’t a Dem and AOC is a Dem in name only. When it’s convenient for her fundraising. I once thought she was a shining light. She’s been a huge disappointment.
I am nearly as tired of the AOC cult as I am of the Bernie cult. She is never going to be Speaker, she is never going to be President, and Pelosi was absolutely right to lobby against her. She is all talk, no action, and I really wish someone would primary her.
The progressive wing of Democratic party must understand that their adversary is not Trump. It is Nancy. As long as she controls the party, there is no way that any "Bernie" or "AOC" can ever be promoted.
You are right. If this last election told us anything is that America is fed up with establishment picks and want something different. I think a young outsider would be better than anyone in Congress...imo
Exactly. The fact that Nancy supported an old geezer instead of AOC, goes a long way in proving that lessons are not learned by the Grand Old Democratic Party.
The DNC has been infiltrated by White so called moderates who are really Repubs and /or Dixiecrats. They control the power and the money. It's their job to make sure the party refuses to take generational change seriously and refuse to spotlight the spotlight the party's most effective communicators.
We have a problem with the older generation thinking they alone can solve our problems! We need fresh and enthusiastic leadership who are in touch with the constituents! For our country’s sake and our democracy please step down!
Individual power is a strong addiction and they hold on to it regardless of the damage it does to the party. We need age restrictions in all three branches of government.
WE NEED A NEW PARTY ASAP. The old guards need to be elbowed out by force, because they refuse to give up power peacefully. Pelosi and her cronies need to be forcefully kicked out. We need to shame them.
DINOs (current establishment Dems) are NOT VIABLE, and therefore NOT an alternative to MAGA. Right now, the only alternative to MAGA is economic justice! It's y Luigi gave up everything.
I actually encourage AOC, Sanders, Ryan, Raskin to begin publicly attacking the DINOs (pelosi, obama, clinton, schumer, newsom). They should start their own economic justice free market capitalism brand. They dont need MSM or copro money. Youtube and BlueSky and Voila! They'll smoke the DINOs.
The bill was vetoed because it would have put the burden onto the Attorney General, while we already have the OHCA managing these affairs. This would have created a bureaucratic nightmare of mixed authorities. It was a bad bill.
The old folks are on the way out, by sheer time and momentum.
And it it early days yet, since what was supposed to move us forward, didn't.
We'll rebuild out of necessity. It wouldn't happen any other way. Take the pieces worth keeping, gather some new, bind it together, and push forward.
Trump/MAGA killed GOP with the same ease they killed Dems. HOW? It's because the establishment (DINOs and RINOs) is so vile, weak, crony, and corrupt that a fraudulent fascist was able to smoke them like a joint. The GOP is gone. Dems can either embrace economic justice or face extinction.
@briantylercohen.bsky.social It's because the #DINOs (Democrat In Name Only) have a disease called cronyism. It's a severe disease that not only brings down political parties but it brings down entire empires, including Rome and now the USA.
Connolly is a good Congressman, and he's been surprisingly progressive again and again. But he's 74 and battling cancer! We need to stop picking people because "it's their turn" and start picking people who are right for the moment we're in.
As IF any one person holds all the power; @aoc.bsky.social will still have tremendous amount of influence/input. By the time it's her 'turn', she'll have benefitted from add'l mentoring.
The iron law of institutions remains. We need (as you say) a whole media ecosystem to upend the power structure. But we are 30 years behind and a solid percentage of the Dem base have a long parasocial relationship with the powerful in the party.
Congressional stock trading should be prohibited, according to President Biden - AP "No member of Congress should be able to profit from the stock market while serving in that body."
I also feel like I'm missing what social media communication capability has to do with the House Oversight Committee which is about, well, internal oversight, isn't it?
They are just as much a "good ole boys" party as republicans are. These old people don't want to let go of power not recognizing THEY are the ones that drove the party into the ground in the first place. As an independent I PRAY for people who aren't loyal to party over country.
It's so exhausting to watch the oldest members of the Dems sabotaging their own party. They gotta retire so others can take over. But they are as drunk with power and prestige as the Reps are.
They’re milking the cow as much as they can for their kids and their grandkids, some democrats children are lobbyists.
No matter the party only few have agendas (good or bad) rest of them are just in it for money, power and fame.
Maybe... just maybe... they know more about how effective certain "progressive" politicians are... and they based their vote on that? Just because someone can make pretty speeches or ask tough questions doesn't mean they are effective in their job.
This kind of condescending behavior towards the younger generations is not new, and the rot starts at the local level. The amount of “wait your turn” I heard when was part of local dem party. Meanwhile they ignored new ideas and“old guard” didn’t understand the internet and lost and lost
I’m a gen X punk 57 year old actually named Karen. There is nothing I want to see more than AOC, Jasmine Crockett, Maxwell Frost, and the new left run the show. When I talk to young friends in gen Z they all think of “democrats” as the weak old complicit and flaccid millionaires. Think about that.
I'm 58 and a Democrat to the core, but nothing in my life has ever made me consider leaving the Party more than Nancy Pelosi driving another nail in the Democratic Party! Corporatist neo-liberals better hope AOC runs as a Democrat in 2028 because if she runs under a third party then I'm out of here!
I'm a democrat and have been for many years. But if they keep messing up, I'm leaving them. I can only vote for them in the spirit of remaining unified for so long.
I’m 60 and a lifelong Democrat but I’m seriously considering becoming an Independent. Democratic leadership couldn’t message if you gave them free billboards, airtime and space on the front page of every major paper. They seem to enjoy losing and I’m over it.
You do you. I’m going to bring TRUTH to you and I don’t give a single fuck about feelings. Not one! I am the king of get out of your own way and mine. We are here because people are ignoring the lies and stating first amendment nonsense. Platforms misinforming people with nonsense is why.
Meta is absolute fucking trash. Delete everything this company owns. I don’t trust this man. You shouldn’t. They have once again silenced multiple accounts I have. They create these odd obscure new ways for you to verify your account.
It’s nonsense. These people are hurting your children. They actively lie and misinform billions. It’s not free speech to act hostile with people just trying to tell the truth and make your platform safer for ALL. This is a disgrace!
The roll of succession doesn’t work in politics. Just bc someone has been there longer doesn’t mean they are the right person for the job. Some of the older generations are struggling with that.
Lol I understand, I prefer the same - I like knowledgeable, experienced reps; but not everyone is “proper” and as evidenced by the latest election results, half of the population is turning extremely cynical and we gotta learn how to speak to the needs of these ppl too.
The tricky part is getting past their bedrock belief that attempts to better their lives is “communism”, and that treating the marginalized like human beings doesn’t hurt them.
Right. And I’m not saying these conversations will be easy, but I leave it to our reps to figure out a way. Some will stick to their meat headed ideas and won’t be reached, but the ones who are smart, open/minded, they just need more information to see for themselves.
Definitely agree. But it's also nice to have someone who has had a REAL J-O-B sometime in the current CENTURY. These 70 and 80 year old Democrats are as out of touch and theoretical as the Mitch McConnells of the world. AOC isn't perfect, but at this point she beats "old and stagnate".
Totally! And my initial post is geared toward this category of peeps because this country is becoming populated with very cynical ppl and our reps gotta listen to them too to bring ‘em in and so they are not taken advantage of again!
Older people have been alive long enough to know how shit works Young people have energy and new ideas. Now we can fight against these diversities or use the difference to our advantage.
Democrates need to understand this is not a game. This is war. Grow the fuck up
Unfortunately, we are fighting in a different world. Our institutions are losing their traditional standings as we move into a more cynical society. So we have to respond, move with the times, use the art of communication to meet ppl where they are - communicate our ideals in relatable terms.
You will get no arguments from me. We need to build a pro- democracy media base through alternative methods. Independent media, short videos. Short simple messages.
We need to unify with one single focus - remove facist from power period.
I see too many democrated arguing over stupid stuff.
Yeap, same. Like you suggest, we need to consolidate our differences and build a coalition against the true enemy to us all: fascism! And coming up with new communication strategies, like alternative news outlets, would be tremendous in keeping the voice for democracy alive!
I agree nana, but it's difficult to do when you are accepting corporate money and appeasing their lobbyyist with your left hand, but your right hand is attempting to speak to the people.
This sounds like an upstream issue, then. We need to try to strike balances and use the art of communication, and I’m not suggesting “dumbing down” things (btw that implies an elitist view). We have to relate, bring down our ideals to practical terms. It’s either give up or keep the fight alive!
Yea. We gotta find out where they’re hanging out too, getting their info bc I know Harris tried, but some of the outlets she was on were kinda outdated or just not main sources of info for ppl these days. They need to get back to the drawing board and introduce some new communication strategies.
Democrates need to spend more time on social media communicating with thier base.
Trump has been talking directly to his base via social media for 8 yrs. People felt like they knew him, even though they really don't.
That is why Harris lost Trump interacts with his base & has for years.
More "Dems can't speak to the common man" bs. Please. What, are we supposed to speak like a brain-damaged 3 year old? Dems have not done nearly enough, but Dems have done more for "the common man" in just the last 20 years than Republicans have EVER done for them. Prove me wrong. I'll wait....
Not interested in “proving” anyone wrong. These are all just opinionated posts - we are all allowed to express them. I do agree Dems have done more and always do more for the economy, actually. However, you miss my initial point: I am talking about the power of communication and the art of words.
I'm completely fine with them not retiring. Stay on in a mentor role. For all their foibles, these geriatrics have EXPERIENCE , and that is a valuable asset. But they don't have to run for seats of power, etc - how can anyone ELSE get experience if they never get in the mix?
It really is much more difficult to achieve unity with a broad and diverse voter base. Every group wants something different and often those goals clash. The GOP agenda is much simpler, throw in God said so and it's a much easier sell on the right.
Brutally so. But with an uniformed voter base that is unwilling to be the "term limits" for these folks, we need to keep every nugget of experince at hand... maybe just not leading from the front.
Unfortunately, power is not given away so easily, so the likelihood of self management as we are watching in real time is almost nil. Kudos to Jerry Nadler.
I find it odd how they hounded Biden to drop out of the race in July for being old, but now they jockey to keep or put people as old as him in positions of power on the Hill.
'They' didn't jocky to keep Biden out, i.e., it was most def NOT unanimous decision to push out Biden & install KH; in fact, many wanted to do some sort of instant primary where the electors chose candidate...
They have the best selling points to the middle and lower classes it should be an easy win in EVERY election, yet they keep screwing it up, by communicating like a blind, mute and deaf donkey..
They need to realize that eventually the younger generations will take power. Now they can obstruct that to the detriment of the nation, or they can embrace it & coach/mentor the younger generations so that are truly ready take over the reins of power.
They refuse to win. I think on purpose, but I don't have the evidence yet. Third party might be what I do going forward because it is clear to me that Democrats have decided the same thing as Repubs - keep in line and don't rock the boat. Total BS.
Term limits is a lazy shortcut because the electorate is not engaged enough to find out. Biden and Pelosi were effective. It’s now time to move on if we, the electorate, can do the deed.
Its a necessary step, not a lazy shortcut. Its not the end all, be all fix, but it needs to be in place along with other changes to make sure that we can move on and don’t get stuck with all the people in charge who got us here.
Unintended consequences: in CA it led to current office holders always looking for their next post. Also, it gave lobbyists and staffers a lot more power and authority…without accountability to voters.
Black women chose Hillary Clinton & they are the base of the Democratic Party. Whoever has won the votes of black women has won the Democratic presidential primary for decades.
No, that’s not it. Majority of democrats voted against her because at some time she was working to primary a lot of them with Justice Democrats because they weren’t “progressive” enough.
Sure, there are young, forward thinkers, but they're in the minority in Congress. Because they're being held back? Hardly. Because voters didn't show up. That's not leadership blocking them, that's the voters blocking them. No one else.
This, some people always have to create conspiracy as opposed to dealing with the fact that it comes down to people just not voting. It's an admission on their part too.
If you want a country that wants that (assuming they are in fact the right person for the job), you need to realize that the old guard is holding back the progressivism that is needed to change minds. The country not wanting a woman again is the status quo, and they represent that.
Occupational Arthritis is a terrible disease. When you've had your hands on the levers of power for decades, you might find it impossible to uncurl your fingers and let go. So we have with the unedifying spectacle of cadaverous relics being wheeled into Congress, when they should be in a hospice.
At some point we need to recognize what a lost cause the Dem party is. They just structurally can not work for or even conceptualize the needs of anyone under 65.
And Dems still wonder why people don't turn out. Our choices are between cow manure and pig manure. The majority of representatives represent corporations, and they silence the ones trying to represent people.
Our government has been usurped, if the people want a fair shake we need to unite.
The latest complaint may be a bit undeserved. Gerry Connolly is a consistent advocate for Federal employees. If there is a chance of defeating Schedule F, it will be through his efforts. AOC will still have her moment...
Will he get attention? The main complaint seems to be he's old and has no profile. Biden had the same problem, he couldn't cut through with the messaging. He couldn't sell the good he did. AOC fans are like "who is he?". And that is a problem.
I just want to start with the older, retirement-age Dems...We need a younger lot, people who have learned from the seasoned folks, but who've also grown up facing and solving modern challenges. I'll state again that we can not continue to play by rules the other side no longer recognizes.
Every establishment Democrat should be primaried, regardless of age, but they'll be backed by AIPAC money and the legacy media, so it will be an uphill battle.
It's not counterproductive if the goal is to run a younger generation of electable Democrats (that's my goal, anyhow). My opinion is it's time 4 the next wave, that's unbeholden to playing by old rules the other side no longer recognizes.
And I am a curious person so tell me, what part is foolish?
It's foolish in that it's kind of insane that politics is literally the only job in existence where we hate experience and want total untrained newbies doing it.
Especially since wanting an untrained outsider with a new voice is exactly how we got Trump in the first place.
We got Trump b/c the other side said "fuck it, let's chuck morals/ethics & just win at all costs b/c we hate any1 not straight/white/christian" & he is playing them by acquiescing to all of it, to stay out of jail & grift off the gov. He doesnt give a shit abt service. WE DO. That is the difference.
I've spent the past day asking "what specific policies and job skills made AOC the better choice" and gotten zero answers, and instead a lot of people screaming I'm not leftist, not logical, and/or hate women just because I don't irrationally hate old people & don't think "young woman" is a resume.
I disagree that we hate experience. Experience is useful in knowing how to solve past challenges should they recur (and to keep from repeating past mistakes). Passing that knowledge on to the next wave is crucial. But the old guard does not understand the playing field we're on now (see Schumer).
Near as I can tell from replies I've gotten, the "new wave" thinks "young woman" is a resume, cares more about someone's follower count than about their actual ability to do the job, and hates old people just for existing.
You'll forgive me if I actually think that doesn't deserve to have power.
Why are 35-year-old women not good enough in experience? And wasn’t this the same excuse people used against Harris even tho she was 60? Are women experienced enough?
Dems didn't lose the White House due to having old ideas. They lost because of racism and misogyny, basically, too many insecure men. We don't lose The House due to having old ideas. We lose it due to gerrymandering. We have trouble in the Senate due to the compromises our Founding Fathers made.
Nothing wrong with younger candidates. Nothing wrong with older candidates. But who votes? Older voters by a wide margin. People identify more with candidates who are like them. Who is the best fit for the office and constituency should be the main concern. For better elections ditch gerrymandering
Because neither party represents the interests of the people. It's very difficult to convince young people to show up when the best you can offer is a chance to choose the lesser evil.
They do the bare minimum, and then fuck over leftists in every primary season. They're a center-right party with deeply entrenched corporate interests. They have a leadership problem. Pelosi was awful and Jeffries is worse. The need some leftists in leadership.
We gave Harris-Walz a LOT of $$. They can afford a re-count in battleground states. I know it's tedious but I want to know those numbers line up. I'm not a sore loser. I think all close elections should have such measures
The Democratic Party's dependency on big money, PAC's, Corporate money, Entertainment money keeps them from focusing on the real issue, that is, the huge wealth and income gap. I won't contribute another nickel until the leadership and the strategy changes.
Their own worst enemy, every single time. Bernie would have won, they picked Hillary... Booker would have beat Trump, they picked Kamala... AOC represents the future, they think the left is dead and complete ambiguity in vision is better. It's sad to watch.
I’m a Boomer who is very irritated by Democrats who continue to squash the young talent in favor of the geriatric set who refuse to realize they had their day.
Tweak your own horn but also point out the misgivings and wrong doing of the other party If not it doing yourself a disservice (specially in the politics of the USA where the avg voter has a mental retention level of a goldfish)
It's the Boomers. They won't relinquish power. They think they know better. Maybe they do and maybe they don't, but please, go home already. We need the younger voices and younger energy.
It's the Old Guard Dem's party. I quit donating years ago because they'd rather court lobbyists' money than fight the RW PLAGUE we are under!
Oh look, Chuclie Schumer just added to his bank account. And Nancy too!
Nancy Pelosi has done some good things, but she is not reading the room. She is blocking the very people we want to see lead. She needs to get out of the way.
Nancy Pelosi has done some great things. Don't get me wrong. It would just be nice to have someone who's more aggressive and fresh. I don't know, maybe i'm just frustrate with the way things are, we just keep losing. We can't change anything if we keep losing.
Refuse to keep a focus on relatable issues for the broad constituent base.
Progressive does not mean we should be dying on mole-hills.
Great is the enemy of good. Let's be ok, moving forward one step at a time.
This is why they need brilliance in the young people like AOC who will not be scared to fight the corrupt GOP and their billionaire funder. There is borne to be a bloodshed in this country if all those who want to hand the governance of America to billionaires and Christian right don’t watch it.
She’s not brilliant. She votes against Democratic bills with Republicans because they’re not perfect. Bills that would help her constituents. She’s not a team player & the reason majority of Democrats voted against her is she worked to primary a lot of them at some point in favor of JD democrats.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. All Establishment Dems do is come crying to progressives for votes. Then when its all over tell us to go sit in a corner. And to all those naysayers who screamed up and down that establishment Dems dont crap on progressives.... Here's your sign.
This is not a good take from my view, with all due respect.
There is a great team of Dems between 45 and 65, first, and they are active national voices. 2nd, AOC has not yet shown her ability to unite the "big tent". 3rd the Sanders squad has not shown a hint of national support, and lost races.
Democrats need to drop the bullshit about things like intersectionality and "literated ethnic studies." I get there needs to be change, but R's understand how to impose awful initiatives: slowly and insidiously.
Brag a little. And ffs take a firmer stance against antisemitism.
Still a Dem but hanging on by a thread, and I'm a card carrying member of the class that has apparently made Dems toxic to the Trump voters. Oh well. Can't give back my education.
Keep dividing your own party based on age, skin color and gender instead of looking at thier policies and abilities. Quit thinking younger is better. It isn't it is different. MAGA support eachother regardless of age and theybare winning. If we want our country back we need to stop shooting our own
I somewhat agree. We need to unite, but we also need the old guard to let go! They still think the Republicans are their buddies and end up taking a knife to the back every time.
I'll never forget them wheeling Diane Feinstein in for that vote.
Reading these comments is the perfect microcosm of how we will never progress. Relentless finger pointing, throwing out one person for one decision 15 years ago, wanting to divide instead of work together, and no one actually taking action beyond their keyboard.
While I am progressive personally, I am so baffled at people agitating to throw out moderates. You are too in your bubble. You can't ignore that most voting adults are (unfortunately) moderates, and it is a critical part of competing in purple states, and we need those seats to ever get majority.
I'm not opposed to moderates as long as they allow younger more progressive views, plans and strategies to share the light. Right now, they are squashing it.
I am opposed to bending the knee and telling us we'll be ok, when we're already in big trouble.
Agreed, bending the knee is gross. And agreed, the party can't function with one end crushing the other. I was just reacting to the idea that moderates need to GTFO. We need them, or we have no power nationally, no ability to hold a majority. We just need them to stop moving the needle to the right.
I agree, is it time to start a new party to show the old guard how to do things? I’m so tired of the Dems trying to use a knife in a gunfight! It’s either that or drop out all together. Neither side appeals to me anymore.
The progressive wing of Democratic party must understand that their adversary is not Trump. It is Nancy. As long as she controls the party, there is no way that any "Bernie" can ever be promoted.
AOC had no choice but to run as a Dem. She would have never won as an independent. She made very clear when she first ran for office that she was not going to kiss Schumer and Pelosi's asses. We in her district did not elect for that we elected her to challenge and bring change to a fucked up system
It's about time someone else other than Bernie Sanders calls the Democratic Party out on their bullshit. AOC's been calling them out ever since before she was even elected. Even senator Chris Murphy himself said that the leadership of the Dems does not listen to the base.

They’ve lost me
I would have liked to see someone else entirely. But he won, and I like the guy
Republicans worked all 4 years to build a bad message and it won (with a little help from)
They need younger more in touch with cell phones and not switch boards.

Guarantee 100% black/young vote.
Other two, not so sure. One is more often wrong while the other one is more often ineffective.
We need a new generation of liberal leaders, not beholden to the Oligarchs.
I guess she just meant younger than her.
Is any criticism of that government equivalent in your eyes to antisemitism?
What then of the Jewish citizens in Israel itself who protest the actions of the government?
There needs to be pressure placed on them NOW from Progressive media, Brian, and needs to be relentless. You, Kyle, MT, everyone needs to beat the drum — OFTEN AND LOUD.
With Love,
A GenXer
So sick of people who won't be alive in 5-10 years dictating policy the rest of us have to live under.
I voted for Harris not because she was a democrate but because I thought she was the best canadate.
I voted for Allred for the same reason.
I actually research the policies and if already in office the voting history of each canadate.
I vote for the person who closest represents my values
I'm not a party loyalist. I vote for what makes sense. And they're losing it by becoming conservative lite.
Shift with the paradigm. Being micro-triggered is playing their game.
The long play is to be tactical, not reactive. And to know that bureaucracy itself is a sea anchor regardless of what party/cult/coven is nominally in charge.
Truly, there is only so much he can fuck up.
Is the long play then party building? Maybe not in the traditional sense; but certainly in assembling a workable coalition.
Being prepared while realistic seems to be a misnomer for so many.
... be tactical, not reactive.

While the aging and failing Minority Chair is not optimal... time is still with her.
Feinstein was very very effective - until she wasn't. And her pragmatic tempered hand was... will be judged by history.
By the end of the year, the damage they will have done may be irreparable. We don't have 44 years to play a long game like they did.
Don't hate 'THESE' people... just be smart in how you come to fully understand the why they believe what they do...
Kinda hard to remember this when we've become lazily accustomed and insistent on instant 'on-demand' resolutions.
The Medium is in fact the Message.
The very insidious kernel of the other place was not excised with the thugs.
Like.... what? Wtf cares at this point.
Im sooo over democrats it's pathetic
We need people willing to unite and fight back agreed but let us not throw the baby out with the bath water
The progressive wing of Democratic party must understand that their adversary is not Trump. It is Nancy. As long as she controls the party, there is no way that any "Bernie" or "AOC" can ever be promoted.
But naw, we want the old white dude fighting cancer."
God, this party embarrasses me more often than not.
I don't know whether the GOP's plan worked, or was defeated from within,
but the Republicans got a new party.
And it's going to put them into the history books, for better or worse.
I support AOC, BTW! 💙
And it it early days yet, since what was supposed to move us forward, didn't.
We'll rebuild out of necessity. It wouldn't happen any other way. Take the pieces worth keeping, gather some new, bind it together, and push forward.
The Titanic had a better run.
Our Democracy is on the precipice of its complete destruction and rebirth.
Has AOC actually been more effective at communicating in a way that backs up the Democratic Party than Connolly has?
AOC is effective at communicating, certainly, but I feel like I see her bashing Dems more than she supports them.
You blocked me because I said AOC was better at communicating than Connelly. I heard AOC’s endorsement of Biden and Harris.

The next year is critical in the push against Trump otherwise we can kiss the midterms goodbye.
No matter the party only few have agendas (good or bad) rest of them are just in it for money, power and fame.
No thanks
MAGA facist enemy, non MAGA anti facist friend period.
We can sort ourselves out after we free ourselves from tyranny.
That is what we are fighting against.
I am trying to encourage unification by focusing on what needs to be done.
Defeating facism, gain freedom for all.
You and your truth think you can single handedly defeat MAGA? OK suite yourself.
Older people have been alive long enough to know how shit works Young people have energy and new ideas. Now we can fight against these diversities or use the difference to our advantage.
Democrates need to understand this is not a game. This is war. Grow the fuck up
We need to unify with one single focus - remove facist from power period.
I see too many democrated arguing over stupid stuff.
Unfortunate but true
Trump has been talking directly to his base via social media for 8 yrs. People felt like they knew him, even though they really don't.
That is why Harris lost Trump interacts with his base & has for years.
Apparently, age isn't the problem. My guess is lack of unity is.
A simple agenda unified them. Ok, so we simplify.
We want freedom, not facism. If we can not be free, the rest of what we want does not matter.
Everyone can unite against facism against MAGA.
Simplify and unify - freedom.
I see sparks of hope here and there and they are quickly snuffed out by Dems refusal to understand the meaning of "insanity".
Otherwise, we're just fools.
They know AOC and the young dems are more forward thinkinh, better doers. So they are blocking them at every step.
Just a thought not a conspiracy Theory lol
Trivially and tautologically true!
Money talks, bullshit walks.
It's not all about being a loudmouth.
I love and adore President Biden and so many older Democrats in leadership but they had their chance and they had their time.
They need to step back now.
Our government has been usurped, if the people want a fair shake we need to unite.
From the perspective of an outsider.
And I am a curious person so tell me, what part is foolish?
Especially since wanting an untrained outsider with a new voice is exactly how we got Trump in the first place.
You'll forgive me if I actually think that doesn't deserve to have power.
Term limits aren’t necessary when we have voting rights.
Data analysts and cybersecurity experts have spent countless hours running through the results and they do not make sense.
@smartelections.bsky.social has a Press Release with the data available for the skeptics.
https://smartelections.substack.com/p/the-press-release?r=em94l&utm_medium=ios&triedRedirect=true
But as it stands now, we don’t know and that’s unacceptable. The Dems need to lead the charge and they’re silent on this issue.
I wish I knew why.
https://www.fpri.org/article/2024/12/romanias-electoral-crisis-a-blueprint-for-defending-democracy/
They wonder why they have a mass exodus on their hands.
Oh look, Chuclie Schumer just added to his bank account. And Nancy too!
Progressive does not mean we should be dying on mole-hills.
Great is the enemy of good. Let's be ok, moving forward one step at a time.
A(lways) O(n) C(amera)? No.
There is a great team of Dems between 45 and 65, first, and they are active national voices. 2nd, AOC has not yet shown her ability to unite the "big tent". 3rd the Sanders squad has not shown a hint of national support, and lost races.
Brag a little. And ffs take a firmer stance against antisemitism.
Anyone with me???
We need to unite against the facism period. Platforms are another useless buzzword.
We need to fight against our country being sold to billionaires, we need to fight against our taxes being used to give tax breaks to the rich
It nullifies everything u mentioned in one big space. Until we control the government, we ain't getting shit we want or deserve. No one is listening.
They currently programming us.
My hope there are that many who realize no one is going to save us. We have to save ourselves
https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20190513-it-only-takes-35-of-people-to-change-the-world
Just needs to be enough.
Fighting back is hard. Civil rights movement cost people their jobs, their relationships for some their lives.
Fetterman (aka new Manchin), or other moderates need to fvck off. Schumer should not be min. leader.
Pelosi who I have loved, needs to let AOC and Jasmine Crockett lead committees.
Progressive, not moderate!
Younger, not old.
I'll never forget them wheeling Diane Feinstein in for that vote.
Honestly, it isn't Republicans it is MAGA, the cancer. Enemy to all. MAGA is becoming a threat to thier own
I subscribe to and read their facist publications.
Who is OUR leader? I'd love to work together but Dems can't keep thinking they are going to work with the GOP b/c those days are over.
We need NEW strategies, NEW goals, NEW talking points.
But I am mad at Crockett
For Voting w Repukes to destroy Not For Profits
So Repukes could rake in more.
I am opposed to bending the knee and telling us we'll be ok, when we're already in big trouble.
Look at the squad
Look at Bernie
...
As long as her dynamic with other Dems stays antagonistic, she can't expect them to select her for upward mobility.
- American Recovery Plan
- Infrastructure Act
- Chips and Science Act
- Inflation Reduction Act
Why is he going to be president? Because people don't want to vote for the establishment anymore.
We want people like AOC to be in positions of power putting the screws to these assholes. That's reality.
