Way too many of us know the horror of needing to go to bed / eat / the bathroom while playing a Final Fantasy game, desperately trying to reach a save point, only for a goddamned cutscene to start.
damn straight. during those high tension boss fights you hold the piss. then you finally kill the boss and expect that sweet release, but NOOO. 20 minutes of cutscenes that your ocd won't let you miss
Games that you skip the cut scenes entirely are the best. Never once thought a game was improved by the film model. Just like a movie should show not tell, a game should play not show.
I really enjoyed that you could pause cutscenes in FFXVI and it would give you a rundown of where in the world is the cutscene happening, as well as all that background that your character is aware of any the people in the cutscene
Honestly itβs the small things like this that make going back to ps2 era and beyond tedious. Lack of subtitles too. I canβt understand everything unless the audio is blastin
I quit so many games, because I could do nothing. the cutscene just played. And every time I died, I had to look at that scene over and over again!
Or stratup that you get a intro of all the logos coming by and so on that you can't skip. i stopped playing so many because of that.
Until it's so intergrated in your brain that you can press esc to pause.. just for some old game to skip the entire cutscene. This needs to be a standard at all times.
Being able to pause anything anywhere for an indefinite period of time is the very best feature of the PS5.
Raytracing and no loading screens are all fine and dandy, but the PS button is the real magic.
And then there's games that either have no pause or skip OR others which will immediately skip with as much as the tiniest button press with no warning.
And then the game only has one save at a time. The only way to fix things is to reset the whole thing by deleting the save data manually from your console or PC. π
For real, somehow that's always exactly when someone tries talking to me with my headphones on, clearly engrossed in a key emotional moment that is the culmination of many hours of gameplay π«
Agreed. Cutscenes are sometimes necessary, and itβs uncomfortable sitting there for half an hour busting to go to the toilet, so itβs nice to pause, go and do whatever and come back. Itβs also nice to be able to skip the cutscene, especially if youβve played the game before.
To this day I still get a little paranoid that pressing the pause button will skip the cutscene instead of pausing it. Extra shoutout to the games that only skip the cutscene if you hold a button down.
I hate it when I canβt pause cutscene, but what I hate even more is when I go to pause and it skips the cutscene. I hate that with a burning passion.
Hear me out on a +1 to that: pause cutscenes, AND a button/menu prompt to skip on the paused screen if you already saw it in case you wanna hurry up.and get back in a fight
There was a game, Xenoβ¦ saga I want to say? It infamously had TWENTY MINUTE cut scenes that couldnβt be paused. Dude, thatβs an entire episode of an anime!
I got to the final boss of FFX and kept dying and the final cutscene was like 10 minutes long before the fight and I just couldn't. So I've never completed the game.

Not to say that I donβt care for storytelling, I find long cutscenes a lazy way to tell that story.

Sincerely, father of two.
*pressing START*
Game: skip the cutscene
Me: No, just pause, this cutscene is imortant to the plot!
Game: It wasn't a question
Honestly I feel relieved whenever the game goes to a cutscene because itβs less scary
One of the reasons why I'm not currently interested in it...yet.
Time this happened to me was a metal gear solid game but Iβm not sure
