Do the sleeper trains in the UK cut off electrical power to the cabins during the night when in a station? My partner uses a medical device that requires continuous power. We were shocked to find ÖBB Night Jet cuts power off. My partner couldn’t breathe without elec. power to his device. Terrible
As I keep discovering more about my Scottish ancestors, my need to experience this trip (and my attempts to justify it to my family) continue to increase!
Yes we had two rooms, one for my partner and I, one for our son. Neither had a table on both London to Edinburgh and on the way back. Frustrating when you’ve ordered breakfast but with hindsight I wouldn’t bother with breakfast next time, plenty of places to get breakfast in either cities.
Enjoying your posts, wonderful to see that journey return to the style which it deserves so richly. We're lucky enough to have experienced a British Rail Land Cruise along that route with a Class37 splendid rolling stock. much wining, dining & a lovely dedicated crew.
It’s also a REALLY handy way to get from Edinburgh to the West Highlands as you can get on it at Waverley at 0450 and it’s the only direct train to Fort William and places en route.
The Best? I doubt it. Expensive as hell even in the cheapest rooms, no working toilet in the carriage on our trips and a driver who only knew full speed ahead or full break 🥴

I was quoted over £350 for 2 of us to go by sleeper London to Inverness at the end of June. To fly would be peanuts in comparison. Shame that travelling sustainably is so hideously expensive @flightfreeuk.bsky.social
Depends how early you book, when you travel, and what route. For example I regularly go to London to see a client. I go down the afternoon before so that I can be at the office first thing. The 200+ mile 2hr 30min trip on an Azuma, first class, with all the goodies. £67. (one way).

Breakfast is served as skies slowly lighten over the majestic West Highlands…
( Hope you remembered the insulating tape to cover the light switch...? )
