I remember as a kid being told by my dad, aunts and uncles that one day I’ll grow up and move on from video games.

Best form of escapism. Ever.
She was right . . . because we got an Odyssey II which of course was a flop. But here I am at 52, still gaming 7 nights a week for more hours than I spend on anything else but sleep and work.
Unless gaming stops being fun for me I dont ever want to stop.
Responsibilities first of course but then fun!
Thankfully, I was raised by gamers, who are now pushing 60 and still enjoy gaming themselves, showing me that one will never be too old
We all like stories. We all like art.
Acting like one form is "lesser" than another is one of those human-experiential oddities that keeps me curious.

We survive, better ourselves, and take care of our responsibilities so we can comfortably enjoy life. Videogames are one of the best ways to enjoy it.

I still take video games over TV, I need that relaxed engagement, like sandbox games (minecraft /factorio)

Fast forward to me being 37 and I just booted up EverQuest again a couple days ago 😂
Games are art, just like books, comics, movies etc.
Viewing them as just a toy would lock you out of so many wonderful stories and worlds!
To them I always ask a simple question…
“When the last time you actually enjoyed hobbies that weren’t forced on you?”
They then ponder the answer and draw blanks.🤷♂️
