action movie AND Christmas movie β
But the real question is: "The Nightmare before Christmas" should be a Halloween or a Christmas film?
Set during the winter. Snow. Lots of Christmas references. Checks a lot of βChristmas filmβ boxes.
But also, core themes arenβt focused around Christmas. Action typically takes centre stage over festive celebrations. Up to personal opinion of why a Christmas film is.
Iβd rather discuss why Jack didnβt fit on the door.
Nowβ¦Batman Returns? Christmas movie?
Security is lax and execs are all there because of Christmas party.
John McClane would not be in th Nakitomi tower if he wasnβt visiting his kid for Christmas.
Also guy wearing a Santa hat:
Arguments.
A huge mess to tidy up afterwards.
What could be more Christmassy?
If it is for you, you do you. I'm not gonna yuck your yum.
(whoops, am I a boomer now?)
π¬ Long Kiss Goodnight
The ending is legit a feel good Christmas movie ending. The "snow" in LA on early Christmas morning, family reunited, Sgt Al overcoming his fear in one final Christmas miracle, fade to music.
More controversial: 'The Great Escape' Christmas movie, yes or no?

βA movie cannot be a Christmas movie unless Christmas plays a central mechanism in the transition of the narrative from A to B.
So Die Hard is clearly NOT a Christmas movie because Christmas changes nothing in the story.β
The setting is LA near Christmas but thatβs it.
It's on my December/Christmas watch list every year.
