wrote some more about this, and sketched out a technology for silent video calls. being grouchy at other people is the mother of invention, pretty sure that's how the phrase goes.
Dark Request was supposed to be more quirky & cute than massively practical, although I have seemingly inherited my father's rank disdain for streetlights blasting into homes & overly lighting the world.
But I dream dream dream of general systems research, to de-applicationize the world, to expose & open up compute beyond the isolation of the process, beyond the confines of the host.
To make richer better canvases of computing, more hospitable and alive than the code/compiled schism.
worked next to a bloke using a mechanical keyboard in a café, asked him if he could do a massive stinky fart and play an ‘abbatoir sounds’ playlist while he was at it
(just read your most recent blog post and saw the specific line you quoted and now realize where the trouble arose.) fwiw, i didn’t read it that way and focused on the “friction-creating” mechanisms you speculated on, like a confirmation dialog prompting you to acknowledge that your behavior is 👎

Reminds me of an old dream for objects in the world to have a "dark request". Please don't be so bright, street light, screen, whatever.
Computing offering itself up, exposing itself! A discoverable world! Ports open, ready for comms! It felt so imminent, was such hope for me!
What a horizon of possibilities ahead!
So many of these things sort of exist today in little pieces. Have found ways in.

(Serious answer — because I think EEG lip reading could work really reliably like right now!)
