i want people who are consistently self-deprecating to realise how tiresome and draining that behaviour is. someone says something nice you'll be happier accepting it rather than putting yourself down until everyone runs out of energy to keep saying the nice thing

Compliments that feel empty or baseless tend to make me feel uneasy, due to the expectations it sets.

I didn't have the same childhood as the parent raised by a MilAuth guy who never told his kids he loved them or took interest in any strengths (a sign of "rebellion" i guess?) but yet the patterns still weakly pass on :/
