so having worked a little in journalism, the headlines are often written by someone else and not the article's author. or are edited later by someone else.

i unsubbed from the nyt years ago and so haven't read this piece, but i recommend judging the headline and body separately.

This genuinely made me feel like crying reading about this. Always seeing how little the general public respects the lives of trans folks is heartbreaking to say the least. And it’s sadly very common for minorities (especially in the trans community) to be treated as despicably as this poor man was.
