Constitutional republic/democracy/autocracy, etc. Meaningless words to the ultra-rich. "You have a republic, if you can keep it"...y'all starting to figure it out?
Thank you for standing up for what you believe. We can all do things to help, like boycotting businesses that contribute to the far right, subscribing to podcasts, and other platforms to support those who are speaking out, and contacting lawmakers. We must not give in. Everything counts.
'...I have written my last op-ed for the Times. Yesterday, I resigned my position. I donβt want to continue to work for a paper that is appeasing Trump and facilitating his assault on democratic rule for craven reasons..."
Now Litman should refuse to go on Morning Joe. Joe, Mika, and the producers have decided, rightly or wrongly, to bend the knee, and yesterday doubled down. Better if they decided to just quit the show if they are that worried about their safety rather than go Good German.
I was in the process of signing up for a subscription to
"The LA Times"
I stopped when I saw the owner bragged about not endorsing Harris and signed on Scott Jennings.
Print media is MEDIA -- not political spin.
Remember this?
βI donβt want to continue to work for a paper that is appeasing Trump and facilitating his assault on democratic ruleβ¦β. I salute you sir, well done and let this be an inspiration to many more.
I had subscribed to the LA Times for about 50 years but quit because of this. I also quit the Washington Post which I used to love. The problem is we are losing major platforms for qualified journalists because owners revere money over journalistic integrity.
He's got more character in his little pinky than all of the MAGAts together. That's why I love it here and I love all of the people associated with @meidastouch.com
Iβm always pleased to find someone with integrity these daysβ¦it appears to be a value that is in short supply these days. Thank you for your conviction and your loyalty to our country.
Now, all other self-respecting journalists who work for the LA Times should follow Harry Littman out the door. You can't run a newspaper without journalists.
From the very start⦠the most dangerous thing Trump ever did was attack the free press.
This is absolutely terrifying. Letβs hope they all fight back or we are doomed
agreed.
I already subscribe to his substack, so I got this in my email & read it before I saw it here on Blue Sky.
that's what I do now:I follow reporters independently of their news outlets, cuz the news outlets don't allow them to tell the whole story;so it's the only way to get the complete news
It gives me hope when a journalist is willing to resign to continue using their right to speak and wonβt bow down to a dictatorship government. It is going to be tough for them..ππ½
While it doesn't happened very often, it's always refreshing to see a journalist put their ethics and morals over fame, fortune and kissing the saggy, corrupt ass of tRump. Thank you @harrylitman.bsky.social
I'm sad. I know that more journalists will replace @harrylitman.bsky.social at LATimes but will not have the integrity of Journalism as you have. More, like you, will follow in protest which will leave space for more sane-washing to appease the king? What's the plan?
Never read it, but support your decision! I hope more step down! It's just a shame you won't report all the chaos we the people are gonna present very soon! βοΈ
The owner "wanted to hedge his bets in case Trump wonβnot even to protect the paperβs fortunes but rather his multi-billion-dollar holdings in other fields," says it all. Sad and terrifying, this is not an uncommon thing and is reminiscent of what happened in Hungary. Go along to get along.
Good for Harry. However, what about MSNBC? He is a contributor there. MSNBC is sort of moderate, but is also cowtowing to Trump lately. Morning Joe should be cancelled or go to Fox where they belong.
Everyone is sane washing the felon and has been since 2015/2016. No one can expect one ounce of truth from American journalists and media. They are afraid.
I've printed this one out. I'm making notebooks with hard copies of the major milestones that are pushing us over the edge. I owe an explanation of the future chaos to my future grandkids. I just hope there's enough left for our kids to rebuild for their kids.
Thank you! Itβs good to see the ones that stand up for what is right in this world! Your ethics are appreciated and unfortunately are getting to be more of a rarity these days.
Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks & salute to @harrylitman.bsky.social for showing how doing the right thing is done.
I have also cancelled my subscription to the LA Times.
What a shame that another distinguished newspaper has gone down the tubes so that its owner can kiss some monster's butt. Litman has done the right thing.
Harry and people like him who stand by their principles can teach these billionaires a thing about courage even under threat. It is becoming clear that those with money are cowards who worship their money over their courage and principles! Thank you Harry for fiercely defending your principles!
My NY resolutions: drop the LA Times, and switch from Democrat to Independent. I've subbed to the Times for decades, Soon-Shiong's on his way to destroy what it once was. Not contributing to that any more. Sad
This is what everyone should do, people should just call out trump and these fckn idiots for the dangerous and unhinged lunatics they are. MSM needs to make this abundantly clear, stop sane washing trump!!!! The shits gonna hit the fan in ways not seen in the US. Dismiss at your peril x
That paper, once the jewel crown in Los Angeles, is now a total rag. Kudos to you for resigning and not participating in the ownerβs βobey in advanceβ position.
The richer they are the more of a coward they are. Donβt the ultra wealthy have more recourse to fight against unjust legal actions? They have so much more than the ordinary person. What chance does an ordinary person have then?
Harry Litman was my favorite legal analyst on MSNBC with Nicolle Wallace but I donβt watch any of that news media any longer so Iβll follow Mr. Litman on Bluesky! I always watched Nicolle but I canβt stand what the news organizations owned by billionaires has become. And Joe and Mika are deplorable.
You can follow him on @meidastouch.com also⦠YouTube is where I watch him on that network⦠whole new media is full of Rockstars like @harrylitman.bsky.social
Reagan's relaxation of media ownership rules enabled Murdoch to buy more TV stations, which became the Fox Broadcasting Company.
In 1987, the Fairness Doctrine was eliminated, which let Murdoch pioneer aggressive conservatism on his TV network. Reagan and Murdoch destroyed democracy.
The man @harrylitman.bsky has integrity it takes integrity to resign from any job. When you, the employer, have ethical differences. Why, because it's as rare as hens teeth giving up a paycheck for your integrity over ethical differences.
Litman can have a career outside of MSM. Mika and Joe... not so much. That's why they went to Mar-a-Lardo to bow down and kiss his ring. Regardless, when shit starts going down and he starts going after his enemies I hope he starts with them for shits and giggles.
Joe's worth 25M, Mika 20M It's is all about money.
Justice right now would be us flooding MSNBC with demands they be fired.
Teach these cowardly monsters while they were bowng to tump they should have been more afraid of the American people.
They keep their show - they get paid.
Do you imagine when the economy goes bust, thanks in part to cowards lie these, that you will get to keep your job?
No. You won't and unlike the 2 millionaires you'll be scrounging ways to feed, cloth and house yourself.
Stop playing it safe? How is taking their audience away playing it safe? Make them earn our views. I'm done with yelling at people i disagree with, I'm focused on promoting better alternatives. Mika and Joe have made themselves irrelevant, make sure MSNBC sees viewers leave for better coverage.
Write on, Harry. Never subbed to LAT, but I found the WaPo a fundamental breach of trust. What other stories will the Post want to report on that Mr Bezos finds a reason to quash? This is the reason I cancelled, not because I felt it would make a difference in the election
Good for him!
When I I subscribed for wapo this was why. I couldnβt care less about βhurtingβ Bezos. I simply could no longer trust their reporting. Hearing what got spiked and who was hired only underscores my decision.
If you think you are going to work from the inside to instill some kind of resistance
How thoughtful
If you believe in a free press and don't want to live with the stench of rotting fish, follow this fellow's lead
Kudos the the guy who stands for what he believes
(hope you find another gig soon)
Bravo! Owner didnβt just want to hedge his bets in case π won. He was in on it with the rest of the Afrikaners. Not a business decision. An ideological one!
As a L.A. Times subscriber for decades I have been of 2 minds over this. We were ready to cancel with the "non-endorsement" & then thought that counterproductive to letting print journalism continue to thrive. Now...not so sureπͺπ

..a stellar person!
@harrylitman.bsky.social
Once again everything he touches dies

Hero.
Be Fkn Brave like @harrylitman.bsky.social
A man w CONVICTION! Decency and inFknTegrity!
Bravo sir! ππ»π₯π₯π₯
Looks like Soon-Shiong is a billionaire who bought the LA Times in 2018. Bezos bought WaPo in 2013.
Definitely time to support independent reporters.
Thanks you for not obeying and taking a stand.
It is critical in these times.
I already subscribe to his substack, so I got this in my email & read it before I saw it here on Blue Sky.

It's unflinching. It's not anonymous. Cudos,Harry !
Thanks & salute to @harrylitman.bsky.social for showing how doing the right thing is done.
I have also cancelled my subscription to the LA Times.
Harry Littman deserves our respect.
(Donald Elon Musk Trump POTUS 47 motto).
One thing I think gets continually overlooked is that Trump is merely a useful idiot of the oligarchy that began with Reagan.
Dictatorships don't happen overnight or with one election. This has been the plan for 4 decades. Greed and power.

Now that the NYT has also lost its way, the title of America's Paper of Record is vacant. Looks like a great opportunity!
They went to Mar-a-Lago?
And they didn't take any satchel charges with them?
Justice right now would be us flooding MSNBC with demands they be fired.

Toughen up & stop playing it safe
for you, but I totally agree with your position. Hope to see more of you on MSNBC.
