I think that people expect that contract law will continue to function for them, at least well enough that their own contracts can be enforced. Which might be true for some people, some of the time. They overestimate their position in the like of people to be oppressed.

The American oligarchs have been envious of the Russian oligarchs for decades. They want the Russian economic system. Russia has made them believe they don't need democracy to get what they want.

If Trump destroys the rule of law, faith in US law, the USD, and US markets will be gone.
