Not compliance. This administration doesn't believe it should face legal or constitutional constraints. Again and again and again it refuses to recognize the legitimacy of the branches.

Unfortunately it probably won't happen as Rs have rigged the system. Did any lawyer loses their license for the frivolous attempts to overturn the 2020 election? I know the state bar tried to sanction the AG and his deputy here in Texas but Rs were able to stop it in court on some insane theory

SCOTUS can still rule that FFFOTUS regime is violating Constitution, federal law. Just that FELON47 can’t be criminally liable. Plus DOGE Bros and Bondi DOJ lawyers can be held criminally liable.

But is this as likely to happen now? I'm honestly curious as I do not know how this works in the real world, let alone the one we are now in. Are many bar associations willing to go to the level of disbarment when major law firms are bending a knee to the President to avoid retribution?

State bar is the licensing authority under state supreme court ("bar associations" are trade groups). Licensing authority is far more likely to investigate and censure, suspend or disbar. (Giuliani and Eastman were disbarred)

Ok. I'm sorry I used the wrong term. I don't know the logistics of how this works. But my question is how strong are these State bar groups to stand up to the administration on situations like this?

And realistically is it a big deal to a lawyer willing to pursue obviously sketchy cases?

Yes. The state supreme court governs the state bar that controls a lawyer's law license. Notice how Giuliani and Eastman are gone? Disbarred. The biggest fear of a lawyer licensed in good standing (by a state) is to be disbarred. Censured or suspended is "public" and very bad too.

I hate to say it, but their licenses probably are not in jeopardy because the administration has already so effectively intimidated the legal establishment that I seriously doubt they’d dare pursue disbarment of DOJ attorneys.

maybe some lawyers can weigh in on whether DOJ lawyers have ever suffered substantial discipline despite egregious misconduct. i can't think of any. in fact, all that really comes to mind is SCOTUS bending over backward to protect Harry Connick Sr. and the NOLA US Attorney's Office from consequences

Their law licenses don't matter. The point is to flagrantly disregard the question of if things are legal as a show of power. He's Robert De Niro-ing and the Department of Education's Kevin Costner, and we've got a lot more The Untouchables to get through, and I need a drink.
