I want to get a 4 slice toaster and what I am learning from Reddit reviews is that 98% of people hate their toasters and the 2% of people who do not bought their toaster for $400 from Williams Sonoma

Goodwill has some fantastic toasters.
I think that's where we got the one that also makes grilled cheese sandwiches and hotdogs.
I thought about getting the one that makes hotdog but it just seemed too suggestive.
*hotdogs
Kids grow up and then you've got a big thing on the counter behind the dehydrator.
Exactly
98% of "people-who-post-on-reddit-about-toasters" you mean.

I can not imagine a basic appliance that does the job so well that I post about it.

I can ABSOLUTELY imagine a basic appliance that does the job so poorly that I post about it.
Eh I was on the buy it for life subreddit, those people will absolutely brag about any appliance they like.
Neat that that sub exists. TIL
I think toasters are one of those appliances where maintenance has a significant impact on their lifespan and performance.
For $400 that ought to be darn good toast?!?

What else does it do?
This is mine.
It has worked fine for four years.

Toaster oven (lays flat on rack) is the best kitchen appliance
Retired our toasters and just use a cast iron to toast bread and the oven for waffles
Honestly if you're going to spend $400, get the Balmuda toaster. It's freaking amazing - it's an oven not a slice toaster but works perfectly well in that capacity as well.
I am not going to spend $400
Maybe the solution is to buy two 2 slice toasters?
I really like my Oster toaster, but it's only a 2-slicer.
There’s a perfect Japanese toaster for 500. I’d probably buy that one if I was going to be that price range.
I got a toaster oven/air fryer from Calphalon a year or so ago. We use it more often than our regular oven but it is just the 2 of us. Pretty good toast, too. Air Fryer is meh though.
after using 230 volt toasters in Europe, all our toasters suck balls.
We have a 4 slice Hamilton Beach we got as a wedding gift - 18 years and still works like new. No idea if they still make it.
We got the toaster/air fryer/oven combo at https://fromourplace.com. It’s fantastic. They are $175/$225, depending on size
The cuisinart combo one was very good too. Ours just died after heavy use and we opted to try others. Don’t go to the Ninja or Emril Legasse in ones
It is W-S, but it’s not $400. Ours is about 6 yrs old and going strong.

Cast iron skillet, bread, butter ... That's the recipe
I got a Calphalon 4-slice toaster years ago, and it works great. My only issue has been that I make a lot less toast now that my littles grew up and moved out.
I have a Cuisinart and its pretty good FWIW.
