It wasn't until I visited LA for the first time and started to go there for work that I realized what most folks, especially on the east coast, don't know: LA rules

Oh for sure. Especially East Coast Republicans . But there is plenty that is subtle. Just look at a few thousand New York times articles over the last 40 years. All the caricatures of car loving, or the lack of culture. And on and on.
A number of employees where worked were originally from the west coast. My first question always was 'why would you move from the west coast to the east coast?'
LA is dope! I visited for a week back in 2019 and had a great time. I’ve been wanting to go back for a while, so I’m hoping I can in the next few years
I was out in the LA area back in the late 80’s It seemed people were living in an expensive manor . That was just my impression. Fly now pay later ethos I suspected
i grew up thinking LA was sprawl and coked-up celebrities and drive-bys and racist cops. Then two years ago I spent a few days there and realized it's awesome.
But damn do they need more density/better transit/bike infrastructure/etc. US cities with good transit are mostly located in places where you don't want to be outside half the year. LA has perfect outdoor weather and everyone has to drive
everyone knows that it takes half an hour to get from anywhere in LA to anywhere else but what they don’t know is that in that half hour you have legit traveled 25 miles
As a SoCal person who became a NorCal person in adulthood, in normal circumstances I give my family shit for like rooting for the Dodgers or Lakers, but right now I feel that these are my people. I'm hearing too many heartbreaking things. I just want it to stop. My family is safe & ok, thankfully.
It should hands down be the best city in the world. Many decades of horrendous land use decisions have made it a cool place that is a massive pain in the ass. It's still arguably the best American city.
And public transit that was frequent and reliable…oh my
turns to camera: Look, I’ve been doing my best for the last 25 years, but there’s only so much one girl can do in the face of overwhelming love of the SFH & car culture
But I’m hearing this sustainability thing is catching on now
I agree- but LA Metro has nearly a million daily riders (bus & rail). A lot of east coast folks think there's no transit, but it's got one of the most used systems. It just needs to be bigger/more frequent to cover a bigger % of trips

Imagine my surprise visiting LA for the first time and find out it's downright wonderful.

Funny, not funny

London underground, 3.2million daily riders (15million pop).
Paris metro, 4million daily riders (12.3million pop).
And that's just the trains, not including buses. The USA lags very badly on transport infrastructure.
But yeah I did enjoy visiting
