This story keeps reminding me that in the original Jurassic Park novel, John Hammond did a lot of his original fundraising with a cute 'demo' miniature elephant produced by a completely unrelated, much simpler technique to that later used for the dinosaurs, but implied to be the real thing.

Every breeder who has won at Crufts or Westminster will tell you that it is pretty straightforward to select for size, coat & colour etc. in the canine genome. We’ve been doing it for millennia. They just know it would be cruel to do it to the timber wolf.
