It would help if cultural epochs had remained distinct beyond 2005ish, but the smushing of almost everything into a generic paste with only rare bits of flavor or texture makes everything run together in a river of colorless bland that you have to aggressively sift through to find anything of worth.

There is nostalgia for the frutiger aero stuff but we kinda skipped grungy 70sesque mid 90s styling. Brands are too wedded to minimalism to do the weird maximalist paisley and brass fixtures mid 90s.

The one aspect of the 80s/90s (and earlier) that I want the most -- buttons on things, technology with a real physical sense to it as opposed to the cold expanse of touchscreens and integration -- is the one thing that I suspect will never get made because the tech sector existentially can't let it.

This isn’t a new phenom. In the 80’s, everyone had pre-automobile fantasies. Little House on the Prairie, etc. In the 50s/60s, it was the western movement and then to the 70’s during the 90’s. The 80’s is just the current aging populations view.
