I don't think a not-guilty is that likely, but hung jury at a minimum, yeah. There is nothing prosecution can do to get the kind of jury they need without opening them up to appeal. The smart play here is to ask for much lighter charges and appeal to jury that some barrier to vigilantism is needed.

I do agree that if I were having to prosecute this I'd go at an angle of 'free-range vigilantism can backfire very easily'(note: I have no prosecution skills, but it seems like a sensible angle.)
