No but it draws huge attention and makes him seem approved of. Any argument otherwise is nonsensical. Half of Trump's whole brand is built on bad publicity.
It should cause attention to the fact he is influential and we should be asking why and hopefully turn it around before we turn into 1939 Germany and Hitler. We can't avoid it unless we understand and talked about it. Hitler was voted in.
What happened to Beniof?? do they have his children in the basement or did someone crack him in the head, because this is a very different tune than the one he was singing before.
Is he really just like global pandemics and political chaos are good for SAAS?
I don’t read the Time magazine, but I’m beginning to think that this whole “man of the year” thing is actually ironic. Like the IgNobel prize, or the Darwin Awards. I’ll know for sure when Assad makes the pick next year.
Not the greatest person of the year, the Time person of the year.
It’s absurd but you have to admit you can’t scroll anywhere on the internet without seeing his ugly mug. Most of the stories are negative but he’s still there, over and over and over.
most ppl - and Trump himself - aren’t going to intellectualize this, understanding that this title is about the impact the person had this year. Instead they will accept this as at least an endorsement of lies, celebrating a trumpian accomplishment. It is also a warning for potential adversaries.
Person of the year is not an endorsement, it is a statement on who has had the greatest impact that year, for good or bad. By that standard, it is a reasonable choice. I don't like the fact they are giving him credibility, but he has had a great impact on the world and is likely to in the future.
I don't think that person of the year is the acylation people think it is. Previous winners include Putin, Ayatollah Khomeini, Hitler and Stalin (twice)
If they didn't make him man of the year the were afraid he would sue. Like the time he threatened to sue Forbes for not saying he had more wealth than he claims.
If you think that being named person of the year by a major publication doesn't give you attention and legitimacy, then you're probably not using any sense of reason.
The only thing that matters here is what he pretends it is and what his followers believe. His method is to gain publicity however he can and then to control the narrative. Any energy given to him is awful.
TRUMP is currently working real estate deals in other countries. Trump International has reached real estate deals with Oman, the UAE and last week Saudi Arabia. Are international policy negotiations being done in the interests of the USA or Trump International. Trump says no conflict of interest!
So, Time's explanation for the award is affecting the world in a positive or negative way. I personally don't think we should be giving out awards to people who negatively affect our lives. Trump is certainly guilty of that...
Since he so enjoys the mispronouncing of others names, whaddya say for the rest of the press conferences he deigns to allow, that TV 'news' people pronounce his name Ta-RUMP with emphasis on the 2nd syllable.
If Time can pick HIM, they have lost what little credibility they had. Sooner or later, everyone is going to have to figure out what side of The French Revolution they are on. And time is on the wrong side right now.
Of course they did; they know, as we know, that the man is a compulsive liar.
Time's "Person of the Year" is given to newsmakers. It is not (as this recipient would have it) "an honor", altho people threatening to stop their subscriptions also make that mistake.
Adding. Seriously, do they really think people will continue to buy their magazine after this, especially a couple of years from now if Trump wreaks as much devastation to our government and institutions as he says he will.
Their excuse that they always use whenever it's controversial (do we even remember any others besides Hitler ATM?) is noteworthiness. The problem here is they don't ever acknowledge that *any* attention they give narcissists is considered praise to them. The only award that isn't supposed to be one
MSM running scared afraid Trumps going to do something to them to make them stoop to this level of ass kissing. Pretty sure when the press gives up that’s when fascism begins.
FUCK Time Magazine and the fucker they’ve platforms twice and stroked his limp-dick ego. They, NYT, LAT, WAPO, and CNN can all fuck off for bending over as quickly as they could and leaving the American people with nothing but gaslighting. More fucking gaslighting.
They should have known better. Those "facts" should have stopped them at "convicted rapist & sexual assaulter, 34 X convicted felon & inciting sedition".
FWIW, it was never necessarily meant to be laudatory but about their level of influence- Time named both Hitler & Stalin as ‘Man of the Year’ at least once
Although it's encouraging to see @timemagazine.bsky.social fact check the old man, it would have been nice to name President Biden. The media ignored his accomplishments.
Time is getting ahead of damage and censorship they may incur.
*Dear Time, no matter how hard you try, how much you kiss the ring, all the accolades you give, he'll take you down in an instant just because. As long as that insatiable ego of his is fed, you make things worse. Grow a pair...
Right, you know how back in the day when sitcoms used the record scratch for awkward situations? Yeah, that happened in my head when the story got to the part where the apple was returned to the refrigerator. Huh? So out of touch, but people apparently like his policies.
to be fair he was an absolute rocking athlete. Cheating, who doesn’t on the Tour. Can’t get through it if they don’t. His behavior was wrong. And no one had to go along.
But they still gave him the attention and acclaim he so desperately needs. While knowing he's lying. Trying to pretend to be unbiased while bending the knee. Pathetic.
Just going to point out being named person of the year does not mean you are a good person. In the past they have named dictators. It only means person is influential and that can mean good or bad
The only way I could support that cover is if they had called him "Liar of the Year" - or maybe "Con-man of the Year". Or how about "Felon of the Year"? I hope they got cash - his checks never clear.

Can we kindly focus on solving problems, rather than on creating them?
Continuing to scream into the abyss isn't going to change anything.
Meanwhile, complaining about a problem without proposing a solution is called whining.
And fomenting these cauldrons of hate isn't working.
(See also: Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Khomeini, Putin, and other "Man of the Year" selections.)
Tradition is a terrible fucking excuse
Is he really just like global pandemics and political chaos are good for SAAS?
I am trying to understand what prompted this change.
Sycophant "abdication in advance" trash....
(See @nytimes.com & @washingtonpost.com to name just two)

I wonder if he got a fact check?
Give it to Luigi FFS.
Wah. Go cry over some other fascist.
🤦🏻♀️
Gotcha.🤦🏻♀️

A new gilded age
I'd say he has all the qualifications to be "Man of the Year". After all, Hitler was named Man of the Year too.
I see him trying to pad the fact to lie ratio there.

Um, ok then! 🤦🏼♀️👀🙈🙉🙊
Individuals and Institutions show their true selves in times of crisis
Some stand up
Others cower and acquiesce ..
Time showed us who they really are
Next issue, put him back on the title page.
Label the picture with "Liar of the century"
