Legit. I live in the Outaouais and while the sentiment hasn’t been unknown here it’s kinda rocketed off in the last month. If that orange turd wanted to be a uniter the monkeys paw granted his wish.
“Are you Canadian” yes. My mom is from there, my mom’s parents are from there, their parents are from there, etc. I am literally a Canadian citizen, argue w the national government idk💀
Question... have you ever actually lived in Canada? While the US & Canada are similar in many regards, culturally they're almost polar opposites. The former tends to favour $, celebritism & power above all else while the latter prioritizes education, social equity, health, environmental issues, etc.
Do ancestory on mom I did. J basset 1642 Cohort France married Fille du Roy, king sent to Chambky La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. 1831 Saint-Mathias, Rouville, Québec, Canada to USA 1870. Speak No French, learning. Return Versailles soon. Sister lives near.
I'm not even Canadian, and I'm right there with you. Like I started jokingly singing O, Canada as the news developed and now that they're pushing back against so much of...well, *gestures vaguely* I find a lot of comfort in it.
Beyond the absurdity of Canada being absorbed into the US, why the hell would a nation almost as large as the US be the 51st state?
Canada has ten provinces, so America’s state count would rise by ten, not one.
In all seriousness, it's entirely possible at this point that I may someday have to claim asylum in Canada or Mexico. Wild times we are living through, here.
I'm in the US and that "51st state" shit is also increasing my Canadian patriotism. I've been told we're in our new "golden age" here. That couldn't possibly be any more Orwellian.
There is an indigenous community in Ontario that has been on a boil water advisory for 30 years and counting. Hope that helps to lower it to a more reasonable level.
Honestly as an American trans woman I think at this rate I’m infinitely more patriotic abt Canada than the us I just wanna escape this hell country 💀💀💀
I’m still not a Canadian in my heart, because i wish for my own country, but i’ll side with Canada way before siding with the USA.
VIVE LE QUÉBEC LIBRE!
Not Canadian myself, but my mother's family is from French Canada. They are also terrible people, so I will never rep the Chatelles butttt let's go Canada! 🇨🇦
That's what Donald has always done, is divide people. He said it himself. He would throw a bomb and others could fight it out. Now Russia has divided the US from the rest of the world. Conquer is now easy.
I almost wish russians would start calling us the 47th oblast. Feels about 30/70 on whether we’d band together like Canadians or end up with too much of the country obeying in advance and welcoming their new overlords. Not good odds.
Or to be rudely patriotic, referring to the 🇨🇦 southern 11th province. I’m half-Tasmanian, there’s a long-standing tradition of referring to the 🇦🇺 “North Island”.
Just did a post about splitting it with Mexico would be good, but they can have Alaska for Winter fun though and we get New Orleans. Amazing Halloween stop and Quebecois would love it.
To the victors the spoils! Would anyone want Texas? I mean there was the war of 1846 and all that but would México be so keen, nearly two centuries later, to grab all of that Republic of Texas land back.
On behalf of the sane Americans who are aghast and embarrassed by what has happened to our country -- and there are a *lot* of us -- I am profoundly sorry for all this.
As a Vermonter, we may give your Quebecoise friends a hard time, but y'all are genuinely friendly and fun folks. Even if your maple syrup is subpar. 🍁 😏 /lh
Herr Furer Felon Trump is calling for the start of a Civil War, again fooling his cult. It's only so he can declare Martial Law. The coup d'e-tat. Is complete!
Trump has triggered a long dormant strain of extreme anti-American nationalism that ignites with intense fury at the mere concept that the proud Canadian people would ever even consider degrading themselves into becoming Americans.
As we *should have* learned the first time, the thing that a Trump Presidency is very efficient at, it is making other countries hate us and laugh at us simultaneously.
It’s cool, we deserve it—play stupid games, win stupid prizes, as they say.
Thought for consideration: how about becoming the 51st-63rd states and bringing 2 senators and an abundant representatives to Congress and just fucking up the mandarin Mussolini’s agenda?
Help us bring in American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands., DC
Ah okay. Sorry, the narrative gets a bit jarring with some of the stuff we're hearing from down there.
I know more than half of you didn't ask for any of this. The ones who voted, and the ones who were prevented from voting. I wish I knew what y'all could do. It's not hopeless, just...really hard.
FWIW, I was rooting for Canada in the 4Nations championship.
I think it’s something like 36% of eligible voters voted for this (and becoming increasingly apparent what many of those only voted for was to cause pain in others, not themselves.)
Please support Washington, DC as the 51st state! It’s been a movement for a long time and it definitely won’t happen under your dad’s regime, but it has gained some momentum in the last 10-12 years. We even have a new local, journalist-owned (co-op) news publication called The 51st. @51st.news
Yeah. The whole anti Europe stuff too is really helping to unite the EU, create talks of a federalised EU army, talks of trying to replace the $ with the Euro as a global reserve currency etc.
As a 3rd generation born & raised Cdn myself who was taught global historical knowledge & the vast diversity of life that exists on this planet, glad to have you on our team.
I struggle with this notion as a veteran and self-proclaimed patriot, but in this moment rn? And maybe for the foreseeable future? This fellow Californian seconds that with an aggressively positive aye! 🖐️
You should watch more Canadian media.
SCTV, old Canadian tax shelter movies (The Silent Partner - even though Plummer's playing the kind of misogynist perverted murderer trans villain people like your dad dream of, but he's so good as a baddie)
QUEBEC is wholly onside with Canada! Maybe they are finally getting the hint that staying within Canada, rather than being a little country easily absorbed, lets them keep their culture. But as an American state it would be obliterated in the melting pot.
Provinces and territories are like siblings. Different lifestyles, finances, we don't always get along, with a love/hate toward the parents.
We have family squabbles and tension within Canada, yet when someone else wants to poke at our family?
When I was in grade 8 in Whitby ON, our French teacher took us on a train trip to Quebec City in 1970.
We just walked around the whole city for 3 days in tiny unsupervised groups (It was Canada! We were safe!) You could feel the history in that 420 year-old city. We walked down the smallest...
...street in North America, the Rue du Petit-Champlain. We walked on the Plains of Abraham. We walked on the boardwalk that looks over the mighty St. Lawrence River under one of the most photograped places in North America, the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. I loved it and want to go back.
Thank you. I'm not sure how many times Quebecers need to vote NO—when we end up with the wrong people in power and they cram in a referendum—for the rest of the country to understand we WANT to remain part of Canada.
Maybe fighting the states will convince us to stop fighting each other.
You write. I'll check that out.
Are you old enough to remember the FLQ crisis? Our current PM's father had to deal with it after a murder and a kidnapping and pulled the lever for the War Measures Act.
Apparently Nixon was worried about our becoming a dictatorship, and shipped some US troops...
...to our border. But of course once the crisis passed, PET recinded the act.
A college friend of mine lived in Montreal at the time during his high school years, and only saw one military vehicle during the whole affair.
I haven't been proud to be Canadian for a long time. This country has too horrific a past and too far to go to become a decent country, let alone a great one. But it's a damn sight better than that fascist dictatorship to the south! And it is my home, I will defend it from takeover to my last breath
That makes you a *proper* patriot- understanding your homeland is responsible for some pretty awful shit through it's history, yet you're still willing to defend it from something demonstrably worse.
Lots of us down here feel the same way, but it sure feels like too many are just nationalist dicks.
Don't worry, those nationalist dicks are the minority, and most of the rest of the world supports you. You can win your country back. Just keep fighting the good fight, and if you need help, we're here for you.
lmao its the first time i think everyone has ever agreed on something in such large numbers ... meanwhile theyre all still fighting themselves down there ... maybe we win after all by them seeing themselves out?! just gotta survive the time it takes to reformat our country pretty much
At least half of us in the US are thrilled at Canada’s reaction to maga & 🍊 Hitler. I have a feeling it’s more than half bcz trump admitted they messed w/ voting in Pennsylvania to win. Every day I hear him proclaim our neighbors as the 51st state, my blood boils.
We don’t, we hate the fascist administration, the craven politicians who support it, and those whose hatred of “the other” gave them permission to vote for it. I can only hope that Democrats have a plan that goes beyond returning to power and one that returns actual power to the people.
I’m so glad! Us sane US ppl NEED yall to love the shit out of your country so when dumb fuck tries anything, yall will stand up and say HELL NO! I’m gonna get me a Canadian flag too cause I’m SOO damn proud of you all! You are doing what the right won’t. Hugs from a blue dot in AL :)

Making us patriotic for Canada is one hell of an achievement lol
No Canadian thinks Elon Musk is Canadian.
I really hope you inherit some of that wealth when what needs to happen, happens to your make sperm donor.
It's a relief when I know someone has the ability to come here and escape the USA when needed
Seriously.
Meanwhile, I'm up to my ass in alligators.

I'm with ya 5000000%! 👍🍁
It's the same as what the other guy is doing and it's gross, regardless of intent. I don't care who started it, let's not stoop to that level.
I can't imagine how weird that makes your father's position. Or, weirder.

Yeah, no.
Most of us would die first.
Truth is we can’t fix out shit. Or maybe we won’t?
We are all on for a new, undiscovered country.

Not really a "patriot" for Russia though.
I'd like the Soviet Union back 😔
Ahahahhahahahhahahahhahshha I'll go fuck myself 🥲

Lieutenant Governor of Canada.
I'm over here like, "OH CANADA, YOUR HOME AND NATIVE LAND..."

It's had the same effect on my friends who weren't even rly patriotic before this lmfao.
Glad we could help. 😂
I like that we took the Flag back from those convoy schmucks!
