As a teenager I attended the trial for the Pine Ridge 'incident' that was moved to my city. I've spent all of my adult life receiving leaders to a free Leonard. I sing and rejoice this day for his freedom
Human rights watchdogs, such as Amnesty International, and political figures including Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, and the 14th Dalai Lama, have campaigned for leniency for Peltier. How can anyone argue these people asking for clemency; especially when #45 is in fact a FELON?! ♥️🕊️💙
Not trying to be ugly but release after almost 50 yrs probably wrongly isn’t “justice”. Justice would’ve been a real trial with ALL the evidence presented. ALL relevant witnesses permitted to testify. I’m thrilled he’s being released but l don’t consider it justice.
We are here to not be afraid to post .. your post made sense. So many Trumpers even on here pretending to be blue. But the truth always eventually wins out.
I remember the sham trial. I remember Anna Mae missing. Govt said she was 1. A Drunk. 2. Died from exposure 3. When bullet/murder was found, she was quickly & illegally buried! #NOJUSTICE
I’ve lobbied every POTUS since Bush #1 for pardon/release. I feared Biden would leave w/o pardon. #ThankYouJoe
The government continued to harass him while he in jail. His family visited. He moved him far away from to Florida. The penitentiary had no air conditioning at times which caused his health issues to get worse. To any w questions, see Robt Reford’s ‘Incident at Oglala’ streaming sev platforms.
I’m not an expert on the trial or Peltier. My understanding is that the trial had some problems with respect to his due process rights and some testimony of questionable reliability. This was a just outcome. Because if he was pardoned it would be an admission of guilt
Obama should have done it when he was president and Biden should have done it much sooner, but at least Biden finally did it. Happy to see that Peltier is finally free.
I’d been calling the White House & writing. To my shame, just Saturday l told my daughter l didn’t think Biden was gonna pardon. HE DID!!! Another reason to #ThankYouJoe
Alas, not today. It's a federal holiday (for MLK, not for the felon)... Maybe tomorrow...
From what I've seen his sentence was commuted to house arrest. Much better than dying in a federal prison, but it doesn't feel like real justice to me.
I started seeing bumper stickers 30 years ago that said "Free Leonard Peltier." I had no idea who he was, so I looked him up and have been on his side ever since.
Biden expected pushback from the law enforcement community.
Peltier never should have been convicted.
Wray wrote an opposition to clemency.
James Reynolds, a former U.S. Attorney involved in the legal proceedings against him, publicly advocated for his release due to the shoddy prosecution.
Joe Biden thank you, thank you I have spent decades writing you and those who came before you begging for this man's release, thank you thank you for this good news on this historic day
4ur followers who may not know Leonard’s story watch Incident At Oglala, read: In TheSpirit of Crazy Horse, The Trial of Leonard, Peltier, Prison Writings by Leonard Peltier, Agents Of Repression: FBI’s secret wars against Black Panthers,MLK, AIM, COINTELPRO Papers. J Egar Hoover’s FBI may be back
May he reconnect with his family and his land. And may his joy to be back outweigh any bitterness of being robbed off his life. And I'll remember that it is Joe Biden who granted clemency while no other of his predecessors was willing to.
Learned about Leonard Peltier in college in the early 90s. I’ve been writing letters since, begging presidents to release him. On this day of such sadness, I feel so much joy.
Not even specific to this man’s case which I know nothing about…. if a president feels they should be pardoned or given clemency or whatever, why wait until the end of a 4-year term to do it?
Great news!
I can't tell you how many times I made the case and request for Leonard Peltier to be released, going back to the Obama years until now.
It took way too long, but at least he is finally being free.
This is amazing, albeit decades too late. My god, I came of age reading the “Free Peltier” tracts! I went to school and got a profession. Worked my whole life. Retired! So sorry this took so long.
Yes!!! I was made aware of Mr Peltier’s case in the documentary Incident at Oglala and by Rage Against The Machine’s music. Glad he’s going home. Very late in happening but he’s out!!
Thank you so much for being on our side. I’ve calmed down but it’s such a remarkable feat I’m still reeling. It took a fascist takeover for the pawn to win.

He spent nearly half a century in prison. Now he gets to go home to finally be with his loved ones. He’s 80 years old.

Thank you, President Biden, for reminding us of our best.
I'm white, but a good friend resigned from the FBI after being at Wounded Knee. He had ethics and told me the truths of what was done.
May his spirit and people rejoice in this news 💙💙

Here a story about how it all unfolded.
