Don't blame cats for existing, blame people who introduce them into an environment or ecosystem they don't belong in 🤷🏼♀️ personally I don't dislike cats or cat owners, but it is hard to ignore the decline in native populations of small animals that cats prey on.
Yeah, true, but I'm inclined to blame the human more, cats aren't capable of our reasoning, they're just doing what they always did
Humans are supposed to shepard the animals we domesticate, but most owners don't even understand their own pets, how we gonna shepard when most people have negative IQ
Which is why no cat should be outside. Some people do not understand they are apex predators and do not belong outside at all. Is this you justifying why you hate cats? Mine are all indoor and well cared for. This is about liking cats in general. Do you know how many dogs maim and kill children?
Depends where the cat lives. Most urban environments don't have animals that'll prey on cats. Maybe the odd fox or coyote, but that'd be rare since cats can be a lot faster and more agile. Most cat owners get a cat with the knowledge that it isn't going to get eaten
That's hardly a point worth discussing. Even in New York City a cat that is loose isn't an apex predator - but is DEFINITELY a terrible invasive animal for the animals that have adapted to live alongside humans in large cities.
The definition of an apex predator is a predator without a natural predator of their own. A cat in an urban environment is by definition an apex predator. That was my point, and it directly addresses your initial response
Dogs would certainly count. But they're nowhere near as successful as solitary predators and aren't generally allowed to roam about freely unlike cats.
I knew you would be a dork that says “woke” thinking you’re smart. You’re not wrong on taxoplasma but also you’re less intelligent than a heart worm. No question.
I had a list of ten things I looked for in a man. Likes to read, gamer, likes cats/animals, funny, kind, taller than me was the only physical trait because I’m fat and I didn’t want to feel huge. Smart, no in laws (I regret that now), creative. Can’t remember 10. Found him been with him 25 years.
I live in a rural area lots of men brag about killing cats. They hate their independent nature. So liking cats was top priority for me. Great cat dad. River passed in Jan it broke our hearts.
I'm convinced men who hate cats have similar feelings towards women (or anyone really) who require consent or have boundaries. If they can't impose their will on another being, they hate them
It always seems to be because they want to control the animal, they want to dominate the animal. A cat doesn't give a fuck, it will not let you control it.
cats are literally the vibe check of animals. like dogs are cute and stuff but unless you have absolutely RANCID vibes, a dog is gonna like pretty much no matter what. and thats great and all but cats are like.. vibe dectectives. they dig deep and will know if you have bad vibes.
One of the first things my bil did when meeting us for the first time was love on our elderly, sickly kitty and that made me 100% agree with my sisters choice
was about to scroll past this but it resonated with me. if someone can't respect the boundaries of an animal, they won't respect the boundaries of a partner or friend
Just because I don’t particularly like cats doesn’t imply anything. I don’t like blue cheese either. “Never trust anyone who doesn’t like dogs” why? Just because you want to divide. I’m personally ambivalent. I don’t get the cat/dog fixation.
Until I lost my 20-yr-old 3-legged cat this year, I'd had cats my whole pretty long life. She was my last. But pets make a difference. She & her predecessors charmed a few cat-neutral boyfriends who all ended up with their own cats. My cat-loving boyfriends: writers & musicians, without exception.
I love cats. But sometimes it's difficult to just feed and ignore them until they gain any interest and accept me as the person I am. I like to think that I am a good person, but thanks to cats I am sometimes questioning myself and the things I do.
Same. 2 long haired dogs and 3 cats — allergic to them all, but would never give them up. I just switch up antihistamines every few months to avoid medication resistance.
1. Get tested. This will tell you if you can live on an antihistamine per day or if you'll catch asthma attacks.
2. Do immunotherapy for cat allergies. Yes, it's a thing, you can become desensitized to cat allergies, but the success rate and strength aren't guaranteed.
The treatment I took had shite success rate (60%) but was successful for me. It's been 4 years of monthly injections, though. There may be more modern treatments available since it's been so long I started.
Even then, the strength of the success is medium. I'm still allergic.
But with a Siberian Cat, with Purina LiveClear food, with Purina LiveClear dry shampoo, with air filters, with frequent brushing, with more vacuuming, with an antihistamine per day, with washing my hands every time I touch the kitten…
I can actually manage. There are days when I won't take the pill
Go to a feline groomer as well. Dry shampoo doesn’t work as the gel d1 protein is in their saliva which they spread when they lick themselves. Dry shampoo just spreads it around - a professional feline only groomer
Naaah. Everyone is saying you have to respect their boundaries and I get that. I would also like my boundaries to be respected. These creatures will just come up to you and claw or bite you when I’m just watching tv or minding my business.
Haha it’s really not. But I also acknowledge that it’s s not every time or every cat. These are very individualistic animals. It’s also an animal that is very hard to set boundaries with. I don’t particularly enjoy being crawled over or scratched even if it’s just play when I visit my friends.
I really see the appeal for them and I’m def not hating on anyone who likes them. But I think it’s a stretch to say that anyone who doesn’t like them is a walking red flag.
I think if I have a standard I should absolutely hold myself to it. I don’t go into other peoples or animals personal space without their consent at all.
A man was scratched and bitten by a cat when he was a child, grew up to dislike cats, and was foolish enough to let everyone know it. The cat ruined his life. People had nothing to do with it.
I can call my cats, and I mean call without some offer of any payoff other than affection and they will come if it is not inconveniencing them. But we are a pride and that is something that very few people grasp.
Meh, to each their own. I enjoy waking up to my girlfriend's cat loafing on my body but I'd prefer living animal-free, for mostly the same reasons I'll remain child-free. She's a precious little baby though and I'll love her while she's here 🐈⬛.
Don't mind me mate, I am a man who love cats. I see myself in them. Strong, independent, solitary, and the king of his own castle. Also, cats are cute as hell.
I don't hate them but I'm not particularly crazy about them. Too many of their traits distinctly remind me of toxic/enabling relationships and I just can't shake the thought.

I like dogs. I like dog people. But I despise with a burning passion dog people who never shut up about how much they hate cats.
Humans in general are just very stupid creatures, can't really blame it on the animals
Humans are supposed to shepard the animals we domesticate, but most owners don't even understand their own pets, how we gonna shepard when most people have negative IQ
But yeah, I think sometime in the near future, something like a mass culling will be needed, simply to protect the already strained bird population
It would have been cruel to keep them trapped inside.
🙌🏽 I win!
I conversed with a new neighbor, telling her that our cul de sac is cat friendly.
My other adjacent neighbor quickly replied that he wasn’t cat friendly.
He didn’t hafta announce that to the new neighbor, but that’s the @sshole in him for vocalizing as much.
Fvkking people, ugh
😡

A dog is obedient and does exactly as its told.
Maybe not enjoying taking care of them I can understand. I don't like taking care of lizards. I wouldn't ever say I *hate* lizards though
I love them all to bits, and take a daily antihistamine to deal with allergies. If I can do that, anyone can.
Pretty neat stuff.
My worry is that kitties can be finicky and their later lives may need special dietary needs so it isn't a lifelong solution.
It would be cool if all kitty diets adopted a formula that helps with protein shed.

YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY
Have hope, but don't be stupid and adopt 3 cats straight away. Be cautious.
Your health is important.
imagine hating these things
theyre just babies what did they do to you
😬
Cats are free spirits, they have boundaries and they will enforce them.
You cannot control a cat, you can only politely request them to engage.
They don't have to like you. They certainly won't listen to you.
And that's fine.
Anyone who actively dislikes that is...worrying
This is often, but not always the case.
I can call my cats, and I mean call without some offer of any payoff other than affection and they will come if it is not inconveniencing them. But we are a pride and that is something that very few people grasp.
And 9/10 coming to a call is for fusses and attention and not a "reward" or treat.
Like the classic "please pet me? I HATE YOU I BITE YOU... please pet me?"
So you can't take "no" for an answer and don't know how to recognize signs of affection.
Neat. Pass.
Very yikes
every person in my life who didn't like cats turned out to be a masssssssive piece of shit.
