It is unbelievable that the US didn't ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child that can make it easier to introduce legislation to ban physical punishment by law. Physical punishment is child abuse and it is linked to so many poor outcomes, including intergenerational transmission of abuse.

Dad was career military (Air Force then Army) & did drill instructor duty. I tell people that & they assume we grew up in a barracks. No, he was determined to not be that guy at home. Partly because he’d been raised around numerous strong women

I think Trump’s main “skill” here is that he gives them permission to be their worst selves; projection onto him does the rest. He’s an old man with dementia and a diaper, the idol is hollow all the way through. They’d adulate a ball of yarn if they thought it was fash enough.
