Imagine that the five most overconfident boys at your local high school, who learned how to use a hammer last semester, are planning to tear down your entire city and rebuild it from scratch using guidance from a Speak and Spell

I cannot overstate to non-techies how poorly this is going to go

stuck between “what’s their real plan” and “they could actually be this stupid”
I’m sure at least some of the engineers fell for the alluring myth that they can do it all better if they started from the ground up, and are vain enough to believe they already understand what the system does.
It's that the adults are even worse teenagers than the actual teenager is what should make us scream endlessly.
But these guys don’t even understand how “date unknown” is encoded. And for a project like this the doc budget should be 3x coding, the testing budget 10x coding. Bet they’re both zero.
"Why is there a wall here? Oh, I see - all the ceiling joists are resting on it".
"Let's get rid of this light fixture - oh wait, it's actually a junction box for all the other light fixtures"
"We should expand the shower to use up more space - oh, nvm, that 5" vent stack is necessary so we don't die from breathing sewer gas"
Was it to code? No. Did it work? Yes.
Decades of patches and shortcuts and bolted-on features. It won’t be pretty. But it works. That’s what matters
When they hired me they told me that they didn’t understand how their own software, that they wrote, worked, just knew it started here and came out here. SAAS company.
That’s burnout culture, this is scorched earth.
One thing that comes to mind is that most ambitious rewrite endeavors actually give a shit whether they emerge at the far end with something that works.
Holy fucking neutronium testicles that is a horrible idea.
No generation saved enough for retirement, if they did the stock market lost 7+ trillion, some people saw 50% of their 401k wiped out.
With pensions a thing of the past, what are the aarp, ssdi, ssi going to do?
I’m the Gilligan’s Island theme “three hour tour; a three hour tour”
So the town will be replaced with crude cardboard cut-out buildings with “Fud Stor” and “Post Orifice” scrawled on them in Sharpie
"Try this... No, you are doing it wrong... this way... oh jeez, we are screwed. Roll it back!... What do you mean we can't?"
That is usually the point they begin to eat each other.
I never should have read "Parable of the Sower"
It’s also probably some really obscure system that few people know how to use, from a company that might not exist, or documentation.
Anyway shit sucks and I'm skeptical we recover in my lifetime. Cool future.
5-7 years with 200 experienced trained people knowledgeable about the policy and code as well as both systems.
Vs 5 ppl in 3 months.
Seems it’ll be a disaster.
It’d be good to avoid that.
That’s because it’s yet another scammy lie from this administration. It’s how they’re going to break the system & then never fix it. Thank you for your work!
