If there is a plan here (just dreaming) and crashing the market on purpose was part of the plan, then they should have sold treasures and shorted the market. The deficit would have been paid.
I mean who could have seen a POTUS that buries his children's mother on a golf course for a tax break would do this to the world economy. Every single educated "woke" person saw it coming, that's who.
The market will soar just after Trump declares his tariffs a huge success and removes them. This will not happen, however, until after Trump, his family and super rich friends have been able to quietly buy up shares at rock bottom prices from the profits they made when they sold them pre-tariffs.
BLOG: The finance industry struggles to distinguish between populists and technocrats on the Right. The finance industry also wrongly labels candidates on the Left as populists even when they are not. Such mistakes are costly as everyone can now see. https://www.jandehn.com/post/right-wing-populism-the-finance-industry
No one can tank our economy as well as Republicans. Thanks Reagan for that one. Before Reagan it was Nixon. After Reagan it was Bush Sr's son Neil Bush embezzling billions from taxpayers in the S&L scandal, and then Bush Jr bailing out everyone who didn't need it after 9/11.
‘87 was the event that led to the use of “circuit breakers” to shut markets down in the event of a freefall. Imagine this week without circuit breakers activating…
October 87 I was just out of college with my pretty new degree. Poor as a church mouse with $400 in the bank. I remember the NY joke "what do you call a wall street bond trader?". Answer was "hey waiter".
Dukakis couldn’t break the Republican Fever in 1988 when he ran, though, because the GOP distracted the public with racial anxiety (Willie Horton) & drowned out economic anxiety w/dog whistles.
Bill Clinton was finally able to break through & lead us to ~7 years of prosperity until GWB ruined it!
Yeah, those were good times. NOT. Since we're going back in time and doing the greatest hits, I thought I would use a colloquialism from around that time as well. FFS.
In the meantime the rich will be buying up because they know their mate Trump will turn round and say to the world gotcha. Stocks go up again and hey presto money is made. Except the world has heard of the story the little boy who called wolf. It’s once to often Donny, the world is moving past you!
market was up for '87. October crash didn't even cause a down year. those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance, forever and a day. We'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never lose, those were the days, oh yes those were the days
Whatsmore, the dead cat bounce was more of a dead cat slide, and that only on the rumor that Rump was going to take it all back for another 90 days. They dispelled that rumor, so I reckon it will be all downhill tomorrow again.
I remember visiting my dad and how miserable he would be coming home from work, given the task to fire all of these guys who cried and pleaded for their jobs.
Actually excited for the finance bros to get to experience what their dad's lived through.
NFL fans may talk about how last years Lions shit the bed, but in hindsight that Defense was living on borrowed time and it's unfortunate things went south when they needed stability.
That said, nothing comes close to the meteoric fall of the '87 Tigers. A simply depressing turn of events.
Trade wars are not modern GOP orthodoxy.
But he is doing one openly and aggressively.
No more lectures about markets being free.
This tariff shit show belongs to the GOP.
I was a sales rep in 87. I was sitting at a table in a rich person's house that Monday trying to sell my shtick, they were so pissed off. I didn't make any money that night.
I worked at an investment firm as a research assistant at the time. One of my brokers committed suicide and in the next week two brokers were shot in the head execution style. It was a hard, scary time.
I don't care about the S&P. Everybody lost money, but look at this. Ukraine right now. A hero with a hero. They don't care about some stupid stock market index. Fuck russia and this orange clown. #NAFO #Fellas
President in 1987 = Reagan. Seems like a consistent pattern since then - Republicans tank the economy and Dem's are voted in after a disaster cycle to fix it, only to hand it back on a silver platter, rinse, repeat.
I will always remember that crash. I had just graduated from university in New york and was hired by Morgan Stanley in September of 87. What a learning experience it was.
Vaguely remember 1987 as a teenager. I was working at a restaurant and I had bought Canada Savings Bonds, since I started working. and was marveling at an 11% interest rate (never having to borrow at the time) and was oblivious about the stock market. I do recall the recession in the early 90s tho.
I was a trader in 1987. I talked to grannies who were losing their life savings before my eyes while I heard their stories & trying to convince them not to sell per the pitch we were given to help calm the fear. Now I’m one of them! Damn this man and his idiocy!
Ronnie’s buddies got filthy rich too! These fucks play Americans every chance they get. I hope Donnie catches what Ronnie caught and soon. Dementia is terrible but Ronnie and Donnie are birds of a feather and may their demises be parallel.
Seems to me that whenever a republican is president we go into a recession and the last time republicans controlled the house, senate and the oval office then implemented tariffs in 1928 the country went into a deep depression.
Like at height of Covid remember when he wanted testing to stop then there wouldn’t be as many cases or during 2020 election stop the voting then he wins people 71 million them really memory holed that stuff and now we all pay the price not him or the billionaires just every day Americans
It is impressive that every republican president in my lifetime has been accompanied by an economic recession,
Further still, only 1 in my mother's lifetime has not been accompanied by a recession
In 1987, as a single parent, I took a calculator to the grocery store. The only treats my kids got was mailed to them from my parents. The utilities were used sparingly & no clothing was purchased for 2 years. I stopped contributing to my 401k & couldn’t afford to attend the Employee Appreciation
I remember waiting about 10 months to even open my brokerage statements after that happened back then. Of course, I don’t have that luxury this time around, since this period in my life is what I bought stocks for. I hope trump and his minions burn painfully in hell.

401ks ARE BULLSHIT,
not "retirement accounts."

Keep trying.
And, again worth noting.
We haven't enacted a single fucking tariff yet.
Bill Clinton was finally able to break through & lead us to ~7 years of prosperity until GWB ruined it!
But we all have to suffer for the leader to prove our love for him.
How are you doing suckers ?!

Very sad for millions but amusing to watch #TrumpSlump

1987 was friend of mine
This is no 1987
(That’s JD Vance Beta, for the kids)
I think his name was Ronald Reagan.... 😆

Coincidence? I think not.
Further still, only 1 in my mother's lifetime has not been accompanied by a recession
It's going to get live like a MF.
Why? Because there is a lot more bull to bear into.
