I had a large colony of cats that could come & go living in my garage. A raccoon decided he was going to move in where the food was. When I would enter the garage with the cat food the raccoon would sit on the shelf & cover both his eyes with his hands. Thinking if he can't see me I can't see him. 🦝
I feel that the term "trash panda" is out of line when applied to raccoons. Raccoons are extremely intelligent and not at all evidence that evolution sometime results in inexplicable creatures like the panda, which should not be capable of survival. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FGkbNWf-5Y8?feature=share
Raccoons have been conspicuously absent from my neighborhood for a few years. Don’t know if it was predators (coyotes) or disease. I kind of miss them and their cheekiness.
Makes me think of Jack Hanna. On one is his shows he and his daughter were helping with a wild animal rescue operation. When Jack's daughter asked, "What about the raccoon dad?", he replied emphatically and seriously, "Raccoons don't need to be rescued."
Here's one from my back deck a couple weeks ago. Suspected by the animal catcher dudes to either have rabies or canine distemper, as it was out and about in the early afternoon
Surely you can come up with a more flattering name for these guys. After all, they're smarter than dogs and cats the mothers are some of the best in nature.
