Trying to understand the reasoning is hard without just admitting our legal system considers autistic children as second class citizens.

Punching a child in the head is not reasonable use of force or restraint and yet no crime is being pursued? It's dire - a nonsensical safeguarding loophole.

Having had extensive safeguarding training at every level, there is nothing in safeguarding requiring any member of staff to act in such a way.
What a terrible, terrible situation for those poor distressed children. One can only hope for justice for them and their families.

Wholly agree but clearly the legal system doesn't. I'm worried it's based on prejudiced ideas of autistic children as simply badly behaved and violent.

The global, and often wilful, misunderstanding of autistic people is literally putting children at risk of harm but I see little to counter it.

I honestly wish I could come up with more justifications or answers but they don't exist.

Autistic people are seemingly just seen as a problem to be assaulted, restrained or removed in the eyes of many - some of whom lead at the upper echelons of law, power and politics.

Possibly because even though it's abuse, it may be more a safeguarding issue than criminal. While some safeguarding issues can be breaching criminal legislation, these incidents may not apply. Horrific though for us autistic adults to see. But we already know our autistic children are being failed.

This is a local school to me. It’s appalling nothing is being done to those in positions of trust who perpetuated this abuse to some of the most vulnerable. Brings me to tears.

Here in the States, staff can manhandle kids if they're a danger to themselves or others. We have guidelines about how, when, and for how long they can be restrained and/or isolated. But you certainly can't hit them unless there's a grave threat of bodily harm.
