We've reached that time of year where all the GOTY ballots are already submitted but all of us are suddenly getting around to a rash of absolute indie bangers that should've won everything

Artic Eggs and Egg Squeeze repping the eggs for the indies.
There’s just too many indie bangers every year, always like the conversations though as there’s so much that can be missed.
End up catching up with so many in the new year when there’s some time in between.
especially in an industry so heavily built around the holiday season, it feels nuts not to give writers time to sit with both the late-years releases and their backlog??
Back when my book launched in 2022, even early October felt way too late in the year to meaningfully expect to make gift guides, best books of the year lists, etc.
that's not accurate. the game of the year awards recognize exceptional games, not just popular ones. let's appreciate the indie games that have been overlooked, not try to rewrite history.
True, it's been an amazing year for indie games. Withering Rooms and Ark's Wonder Dungeon were two games that came outta nowhere to sweep my list. I still need to actually play 1000xResist and Crow Country too before the year is over.
I really hate how OTY lists come out in December. In any field of media/art. It should be at the end of January so people are encouraged to sit with it instead of being encouraged to binge it.

Honerable mentions
Wildfrost
Rotwood
Station to station
Inkulinati
I need like a year to catch up
an now Indiana Jones is apparently very very good!
(Full disclosure: I helped with marketing for 1KXR!)
It has some really good writing, but I can't handle how cruel that game is.
What a year (weird but also full of gems)
UFO 50, Utopia Must Fall, Crow Country, and Bumpy Grumpy.
Also loved Slitterhead which is AA, but I think still counts as indie since it's a new studio and self-published.
