Had to cut the blooms from this three year old amaryllis bulb because the stems just got too long! 30 inches (80 cm approximately) from the top of the bulb. Toppling dangerously!

What ppl may not realize is how much of the scientific work force doing actual hands-on work - faculty, technicians, students, core equipment operators, animal techs etc- are funded all or in part by indirect funds. Univs use them eg to pay for common use facilities & bridge salaries between grants.
