You set the house on fire, watched it burn, and then lost your nerve and put it out. You now have a partially burned house. Great job.

Here’s the best way to understand what’s happening. Trump genuinely wants to impose a 19th century mercantilist model that would crash the economy and destroy the global trading order but the idea is just so colossally stupid and destructive, he can’t actually do it. So we get this.

Bessent indicates that Trump still plans to announce new tariffs on lumber and pharmaceuticals despite the pause on the reciprocal tariffs 🤡

The Trump way has always been to cause problems and then partially solve them by backing off what he did to cause the problem, and then calling the whole thing a "victory." It's like if I threw a baseball through a window and then taped cardboard over the hole and declared myself a Window Genius.

They're going to pretend that this was all "The Art of the Deal" and not a tail-between-the-legs last-minute reversal after it was clear that Trump single-handedly set the global economy on fire. But we all know what was being said just yesterday.

Unless I'm misunderstanding Trump's post, we still have 10 percent across the board tariffs and are in the midst of a trade war with China. That's not a good scenario for the US economy. Why is everyone acting like Trump just turned into Adam Smith?

this is how the american economy is going to work for AT LEAST two entire years

Markets are experiencing Stockholm Syndrome right now but at some point the real world will have to reckon with the fact that 10% universal tariffs plus 125% tariffs on China (and maybe the EU?) and sector tariffs on steel, aluminum, lumber, and pharmaceuticals are still a huge problem

😂😂😂 Best response.

if you take a step back and think about what trump is proposing as his "cave" to the markets you will realize that in any other context this supposed climb-down would be (rightly) interpreted as an unfathomable escalation

Art of the deal!

The entire reason you curb the exercise of arbitrary power is it prevents one asshole's mood swings from wrecking an entire country! You don't praise it when it momentarily swings in your favor

Oh they were scared as hell *TRUMP: WAS WATCHING THE BOND MARKET *TRUMP: BOND MARKET NOW IS BEAUTIFUL

Listen to the start of this. The grovelling sycophant meeting Trump: “You got the markets seeing your brilliance”. This is the most catastrophically dangerous thing happening right now.

lol. The Dow is down 5,000 points over the last six weeks and we have nothing to show for it, save for a lot of pissed off allies and broken trust. The Art of The Deal!

Biggest mistakes I'm seeing in early reporting (thread): 1. Tariffmageddon isn't over: Lotsa tariffs to account for, but the average tariff rate is only down around one quarter. So most of the pain of Liberation Day is still with us.

1) Do something autocratic 2) Wait to see how people react 3) If they don't push back hard enough, carry on 4) If they do push back hard enough, "pause" it 5) Illegally consolidate more power 6) Repeat

We still don’t. It’s deranged tyrant shit, and that’s the problem in a nutshell. A legitimate policy would never be this stupid or harmful, and we don’t have dictators in America. So the authority needs to be removed, along, ideally, with the tyrant himself. www.offmessage.net/p/we-dont-ha...

Half way thru the latest @chrislhayes.bsky.social #WITHpod w/ @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social & I highly recommend. It occurrs to me how the prob is the system but DOGE is merely firing the ppl who administer the system, not reforming the system itself, leaving fewer ppl to deliver the goods. Maddening.

That’s because there weren’t any.

No. You’ve been watching stock market fraud.

#KarenRead Not surprisingly, a Massachusetts State Police Det Lt named Brian Tully is given a penalty of forfeiting 6 days of vacation pay for failing to do his job.. on multiple occasions. This also means he won't be reported to the POST Commission as he was "properly punished". #FreeKarenRead

Saturday the day for American s to stand up to the assault on our country! The rage is rising and the tolerance for this craziness is running out!

Yes, the stock market may be tanking and our national security apparatus has never been more vulnerable and we're on the verge of both economic collapse and war, but it was all worth it to keep pronouns out of email signatures.

It's not a bad idea to go to the local Walmart or big box retailer and buy lots of consumables now. From toothpaste to soap, anything you can find storage space for, buy before they have to replenish inventory. Even if it's made in the USA , they will jack up the price and blame it on tariffs.

About time he does something good for America given hes spent his life undermining Americans. www.politico.com/live-updates...

What the absolute fresh hell?!? Is this really who we Americans are just so we can give billionaires tax cuts? Seriously? That’s not who I am.

This is Winston Churchill visiting the White House during World War II. Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.
