Can we afford clean water? Can we afford rivers and lakes and streams and oceans which continue to make life possible on this planet? Can we afford life itself?

Remember when the WH insisted that global HIV prevention & treatment was exempt from the freeze? When it seemed MAYBE they understood that cutting off medicine could put the entire planet at risk of drug resistant HIV strains? Wrong. Elon Musk’s interns were simply shutting payments off manually.

HOW COOL IS THIS? In preclinical studies, Stanford scientists discovered that a harmless skin bacterium triggers a powerful immune response. By tweaking a bacterial protein, they developed a topical NEEDLE-FREE vaccine, training the immune system to fight diseases like tetanus and diphtheria! 🧪🧵⬇️

i am really, really going to enjoy getting to see Elon Musk learn for the first time in his entire life that capital needs labor, labor does not need capital. he is convinced every worker in the government, if not the entire united states, needs their job more than their job needs them

“Essentially, when you're infected with measles, your immune system abruptly forgets every pathogen it's ever encountered before – every cold, every bout of flu, every exposure to bacteria or viruses in the environment, every vaccination. The loss is near-total and permanent.“ 😳 #MedSky

My definitive ranking of swing revival era bands: 1. Cherry Poppin Daddies. No question, they were the best. 2. Brian Setzer Orchestra - Just an extension of what he was already doing, good. 3. Royal Crown Review - The song they did for The Mask slaps.

being obsessed with IQ is a good sign that you have nothing in your life to give you actual meaning. (also a good sign you have bell curve-esque beliefs about human equality)

Apropos of the IQ discourse, I'm reading Eve Ewing’s excellent new book, and she includes this 1960s-era logo from the Stanford-Binet test company. As the calipers clearly show, IQ tests are eugenic relics, and folks who invoke them to justify hierarchies should be ridiculed.

Apropos of nothing: I’m genuinely not surprised at all that so many evil people turn out to be actually fucking stupid, because being evil has always been the easier option.

Maybe hating on dick bosses is the great unifier, the thing that brings all Americans together.

radio addresses from the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War:

Well, they hadn't put the ball on the tee, so he had plenty of time. 😂

This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

lemme know when we start burning cybertruck effigies

Super interesting how no former presidents have said a damn thing about the coup Speaks heavily to how we got here that Obama hasn’t said a word.

This piece by @dieworkwear.bsky.social is just super thoughtful and full of revelations. Love.

I'm sorry but I'm just not going to be cowering in fear of these clowns. They suck and they are cruel but they are not God.

Happy Black History Month

One of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world just lost $1.4 billion (with a B) to a hack. This is 5x as much as the previous largest exchange hack in history.

Astonishing crowd inside Manhattan Criminal Court two hours before Luigi Mangione’s follow-up appearance. Organized chaos, people are in cordoned-off gaggles down the full length of the hall, chatting casually. Feels reminiscent of fans waiting for a concert ticket line to open.

Lots of folks are feeling overwhelmed and scared right now and say they don’t know what to do. Wear your masks, y’all. It’s one of the easiest, radical anti-fascist acts you can do.

Last week, a number of prominent UK feminists declared Donald Trump a "feminist hero" for banning trans women from playing sports. How did we get here? A new book by @reproutopia.bsky.social explores how reactionary tendencies have created Enemy Feminisms throughout the history of feminism

It’s the weirdest thing how much we are expected to sacrifice for the good of the “economy” and now we are watching them illegally destroy the economy and shrug like, yeah, I guess the economy wasn’t that important in the first place

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS @democracyforward.org request to allow expedited discovery in lawsuit challenging DOGE access to Department of Labor data. First instance of discovery being permitted in the Trump accountability cases. Visit Democracy Docket for more info. www.democracydocket.com

A Red-tailed Hawk surveys the field for things to eat. She must not have not seen much; she soon left the field and headed into the woods.

What is happening right now is not just a targeting of minority groups and our integration into society. It is the targeting of minority groups as part of remaking the United States government and the theory of democracy that has organized it for over two centuries.

You know how birds of paradise look almost luminous? Well, it turns out that's because they are, thanks to biofluoresence.

Just going to say again that one of the best things folks can be doing is to walk around their neighborhoods handing out two pagers to their neighbors explaining what's happening. If 1 million people committed to doing this over the month of March, we'd be getting somewhere re: info.

In the piece below, I talk a lot about mass messaging (posters, stickers, etc.) to keep the focus not just on enmity towards Trump and Musk but the impact of their actions. In case it's helpful, I put together some examples! Not perfect, but they get the job done (feel free to steal/share)

Are you rethinking travel plans this year? Can you let your airline know?

Not surprised that it's community colleges that are fighting back. Community colleges serve the greatest number of people facing systemic barriers. A large percentage of community college students are the first in their family to attend college.

I love this thread because it explains so well the love of gathering knowledge is what’s fun, not just the knowledge gathered. I share historical markers not because they’re all you need to know, but to send us down a path of learning more about whatever. And I remember the Dewey Decimal System.

Where are all the Dem consultants who supposedly do "comms" work at? Where's the website put together with succinct talking points, one pagers, posters that folks can easily download, print and pass out in their communities? Why aren't they doing this work PRO-BONO?

Many undocumented Texans have been in the U.S. for decades, own homes and small businesses and have U.S. citizen children in Texas schools. Here is a look at the state’s undocumented population, by the numbers. trib.it/zBiFbQ

They're re-airing "40 Acres and a Lie," this month, so if you ever want to hear some of the details of how one of the promises of reconstruction in the form of Special Field Order Number 15 wasn't just broken, but was actually partially fulfilled and then *Reneged Upon,* check out this reportage.

The moon. Waning gibbous.

PSA: Words matter They aren’t “layoffs” It’s not about “efficiency”

"The richest man alive, an actual Nazi and a fucking sicko, who was not elected, is firing tens of thousands of people to further enrich himself and the president he has usurped all to make Americans' lives worse" has to be among the biggest layups of all time for messaging. And yet.
